At its June 18th meeting, the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District Board of Education approved Richard Bergacs, Ed.D., to be the new Principal of North Hunterdon High School effective July 1, 2013. Dr. Bergacs is currently the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs and Operations of North Hunterdon High School. He will succeed Michael Hughes, who was recently hired to be the district’s new Assistant Superintendent.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as the new Principal for North Hunterdon High School, which is one of the finest schools in the country. The school has an amazing faculty and I am impressed on a daily basis with the accomplishments of our students. The energy that surrounds the students, staff, parents and community at North Hunterdon is inspiring and I am excited to work with all of them in my new role,” said Bergacs.
Dr. Bergacs was chosen from 15 internal and external candidates who applied for and were qualified for the position of Principal. A screening committee reduced the number of candidates to five, who were then interviewed by a separate committee consisting of parents, students, supervisors, teachers, and the Assistant Superintendent. After meeting with the candidates, the interview committee recommended two candidates to Dr. Charles M. Shaddow, Superintendent of Schools. In the end, Dr. Richard Bergacs was Shaddow’s choice for the position.
“Dr. Bergacs truly has an impressive list of accomplishments since joining the district in 1999. As Director of Technology, he brought us to the forefront of the use of technology in the state. As Assistant Principal of North Hunterdon, he has involved himself in every aspect of administrating a high achieving high school. He is ready for this next challenge,” said Shaddow.
Prior to becoming Assistant Principal at North Hunterdon High School in March 2011, Dr. Bergacs was the high school district’s Director of Technology for 12 years. He is credited with establishing a web presence for the district with the creation of the district and high school websites and email system. Dr. Bergacs was an Adjunct Professor at The College of New Jersey for eight years where he implemented a course on Network Technology for the Master degree students in the Educational Technology department. He was an Applied Technology Teacher at Stillwater Township School from 1994 to 1999. During his time at Stillwater Township, he received the New Jersey Elementary Technology Program of the Year Award for the K-6 grade Applied Technology curriculum he developed for the school district.
Dr. Bergacs received his Bachelor of Science in Technology Education degree from The College of New Jersey, and his Master’s of Education and Doctor of Education degrees in Educational Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University.
