On May 26, 2011 at its final blood drive of the school year, North Hunterdon High School set a record for the most pints of blood donated in a single year by receiving 1,065 total pints! This is a new record for both the high school, New Jersey Blood Services and its parent company New York Blood Center. During the May 26th blood drive, senior Emily Worthington of Clinton Township was the 1,000th donation of the year and was given some special gifts to celebrate the milestone by Steven DeLorenzo, North Hunterdon guidance counselor and blood drive coordinator.
During the previous school year, North Hunterdon High School’s blood drives received 884 pints of blood, which was a new record for the school and put the school in first place for total donations among 526 high schools connected with New Jersey Blood Services. North Hunterdon will once again be number one this year.
The next blood drive at North Hunterdon High School will be on August 1 from 3:00-9:00PM in the gym. Voorhees High School will also hold a blood drive on August 4 from 2:00-8:00pm in the gym.
(L-R) Emily Worthington, the 1000th donor of the year, stands with Superintendent Dr. Charles Shaddow, Barbara Pearson from New Jersey Blood Services and North Hunterdon junior Ryan Hudak. The final blood drive of the year was held in honor of Ryan Hudak (of Franklin Twp) who has hemolytic anemia and recently required six transfusions of precisely matched blood. He was there with his sisters and mother to celebrate the 1,000th donation milestone.
