Withdrawal From School
Our district encourages all students to complete their education. While students over 16 aren’t legally required to attend, we’ll make every effort to ensure the school is meeting the needs of any student who wishes to withdraw.
Permanent Withdrawal
If a student wants to withdraw permanently, they must:
- Get a withdrawal form from the guidance office for a parent or guardian’s signature.
- Meet with their guidance counselor to discuss their reasons.
- The guidance counselor will review their file to confirm they’ve received all entitled educational services.
- The student will be offered an exit conference with their guidance counselor and/or the Principal. During this meeting, they’ll learn about:
- The benefits of continuing their education later for a high school diploma (e.g., Adult High School Program).
- The possibility of re-enrolling until age 20 (or 21 for students with educational disabilities).
- Educational opportunities in the Armed Forces that can count towards a high school diploma.
- The continued availability of high school counseling services.
- The Guidance Director will report the withdrawal and its reasons to meet state requirements.
Transferring to Another School
If a student is transferring to a different public or private school, they need to get a transfer form from the guidance office for parent or guardian approval. When a parent withdraws a student to transfer, we’ll ask for the name and location of the new school to facilitate record transfer.
Student Responsibilities Upon Withdrawal or Transfer
A student who withdraws or transfers must:
- Return all school property, such as books and uniforms, and get a receipt.
- Clear out their locker(s) and return any district-owned locks.
- Resolve any library obligations (materials or fines).
- Pay any fines for damaged or lost textbooks.
- Submit the properly authorized withdrawal or transfer form.
Records
Student records for transfers will be sent to the new school. Permanent records of students who withdraw from school will be kept in accordance with record retention guidelines.
Any student having withdrawn from high school and wishing to re-enter can do so only upon the recommendations of the Principal or designee.
