Weighted Courses:
All students in AP classes now earn AP weighting regardless of whether or not they take the AP exam.
All Honors and AP courses are weighted. This means that upon successful completion a student may obtain a grade advantage for purposes of GPA. Expectations for student performance in honors and AP courses are much higher than general and CP level courses.
Advanced Placement vs. Project Acceleration:
Key Points
1. The Advanced Placement and Project Acceleration programs are two separate entities with one
having nothing to do with the other.
2. Whether a student is given credit and/or advanced standing for getting a certain AP score on the
Exam is completely up to the individual college or university. Neither the College Board nor the
local High School has any say in this matter.
3. Currently the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District requires students to take
the AP exam if they want AP weighting (.5 quality point) for the purpose of GPA calculations. If a
student does not take the AP exam they will gain honors weighting (.35 quality point) for this
purpose.
4. Project Acceleration is a concurrent registration program, meaning that the student is enrolled
in the specific AP course at North Hunterdon High School and simultaneously enrolled in a Seton
Hall course, e.g., AP Chemistry and CHEM 1001-Chemistry and the World Around Us. Students
who enroll in a Project Acceleration course are awarded credit by Seton Hall University upon
successful completion of the course. Whether a student takes the AP test or not has no bearing
on the issue of credit from Seton Hall. Students must request a transcript from Seton Hall, not
NHHS. Students can accumulate up to 22 credits from Seton Hall during their high school
career. The Project Acceleration website lists many of the colleges and universities that
acknowledge this credit. Again, placement or the awarding of credit is up to the individual
college and/or university.
5. Both Project Acceleration and the RVCC English Course are what we call option 2 alternatives,
which allow students college opportunities while they are still in high school.
