The Technology Department is pleased to officially announce the availability of Google Apps for Education for all staff members in the District as of 12/14/2012.
Google Apps for Education provides a series of online tools that include, among others: an online storage and document editing service (Google Drive & Docs), an online calendar manager (Google Calendar), an online contact manager (Google Contacts), and an online website editor (Google Sites). All these services are accessible by staff using their school account and are provided in a secure environment managed by the NHV Technology Department.
We have distributed a Starting Guide to all staff and prepared a Moodle course for staff where staff can, at their own pace, learn in more detail how to use Google Apps for Education in their classroom. The online course offers a forum where staff can get help regarding Google Apps for Education from the Technology Department and from fellow staff members. We hope this aid in training our staff in this new Technology service.
Please note that at this time we are releasing Google Apps for Education for staff only. We will make it available to all students later in this school year. The official release for students will happen shortly after the start of the second semester.
We hope Google Apps for Education will become a helpful tool for our staff and students and that it makes its way inside and outside the classroom.
Google Apps for Education is a service provided for free by Google Inc to qualified educational institutions. It compares to the paid version of the service, Google Apps for Business. As many other K12 public school in the country, the NHV District is taking advantage of this free, yet powerful, service.
