What is chess club?
Anyone who loves to play the royal game, from beginners and experts, is welcome! If you don’t know how to play, but have always wanted to learn, now is the perfect time! Through weekly meetings and other fun-filled activities, the chess club is a stress-free environment to improve your game, or just have fun with other chess fans!
History of the club
The chess club began meeting regularly just last school year. In March 2017, our four-player delegation blew through the field at the New Jersey High School Team Championships by taking the JV trophy with a 5-0 team score, while also bringing home three individual trophies! In May 2017, we partnered with Dean of Chess to bring in International Master Dean Ippolito to hold a simultaneous exhibition (simul). Our players put up great fights, but ultimately IM Ippolito swept with a 15-0 score.
Besides weekly after-school meetings, we also have informal blitz tournaments planned. We will be competing at three state and national level tournaments. IM Dean Ippolito will also be returning for more simuls.
Mark your calendars!
We will compete at the New Jersey K-12 Grade Level Championships on November 19 at Brookdale College, Lincroft, NJ. More information will follow, and is also available at http://www.uschess.org/tlas/upcoming.php?STATE=NJ.
We welcome members’ suggestions! Bring up your ideas during our meetings or email Mrs. Carter at firstname.lastname@example.org.
