The ARC of New Jersey is offering various upcoming webinars as well as a college tour. Please see information below.  If you are interested, please register through the link provided under each event.

College Tour

Turning Point Program at Bergen Community College Tour

  • Date: Friday, January 10
  • Time: 11 am

 

Calling all students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Join The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute for a tour of The Turning Point Program at Bergen Community College. The Turning Point Program is a two-year post-secondary experience for young adults with intellectual disabilities interested in continuing their education. The program utilizes student-centered planning, enhanced academic and peer mentoring support to provide an inclusive college experience. Areas of study include: career skill development and vocational opportunities, academic enrichment, increased ability for self-advocacy and independence, Social and recreational opportunities. During the tour perspective students will have an opportunity to visit the campus and learn about the different aspects of a college experience while families will learn about the Program and its educational, vocational and campus life supports.

What every family needs to know about Special Needs Trusts for individuals with Developmental Disabilities – PART ONE OF TWO

  • Date: Tuesday, January 14
  • Time: 6 pm

 

The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute is pleased to announce two webinars on the important topic of Special Needs Trusts:

  • On January 14th at 6 pm, Paul Prior, Esq. from Hinkle, Prior and Fischer will discuss what a Special Needs Trust is and how trusts aren’t all the same.
  • On February 3rd at 6 pm, Maria Fischer, Esq. from Hinkle, Prior and Fischer will explain what families need to know about purchasing necessary items for their son/daughter with I/DD with money from the SNT. She will discuss which types of expenditures are allowable, and which are not, in accordance with NJ Medicaid rules and regulations. She will also explain the importance of keeping receipts for all expenditures from the SNT and what to do when the individual with I/DD needs an expensive item costing $5,000 or more.

2020 Census. Shape Your Future.

Every 10 years, the government reports the number of people who live in the U.S. by conducting a count called the Census. This year, the census will begin on April 1. The Census determines how many seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives and state, local and federal governments use Census information for planning and allocating billions in federal funds. Hosted by The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute and presented by Mario Lee, Partnership Specialist for the New York Regional Census Center, this webinar will provide an overview of the census, how to complete it, what data is collected and how that data is used and stored.
