North goes 3-0 in-county and wins the Hunterdon championship. The Jungle was Rocking tonight and was absolutely awesome – Great job!
The Dan Hutchins North award winner with the most exciting match of the night was Brian Smolinsky. Brian won a trophy and will receive a scholarship from the Dan Hutchinson Scholarship.
The Daniel R. Hutchins memorial wrestling awards are presented in memory of Dan Hutchins, who unfortunately lost his life in an automobile accident at the near the conclusion of his senior year. Dan was at the time, the winningest wrestler in Del-Val history with over 100 wins and placements at the State Wrestling Tournaments his junior and senior years. He was to attend Rutgers University in the fall of that year, both on academic and wrestling scholarships.
The family, Don, Janine, and twin brother Phil Hutchins decided to present two trophies each year (annually) at the NHRHS vs Delaware Valley HS dual meet, in memory of Dan’s great bouts with North athletes during his four years at Del-Val. The two outstanding wrestler awards (trophies)and scholarships ($500.00) each are selected by the opposing coaches, at the conclusion of each dual meet.
To date, I believe there have been twelve years of presentations since his death in 2002. The funding is from a foundation formed by the family, from which they receive funding from an annual golf outing run for these and other scholarships to Del-Val students.
