Newsome sisters sharing the backcourt at North Hunterdon
“We’ve played together in the past, in rec. and in middle school, but we’re really excited about being on playing varsity together,” Maria said. “She plays up to my level and she’s as good as anyone on the team, so a lot of times I’m harder on her because I forget she’s a freshman. And she definitely lets me know when I’m hard on her. But I definitely like having her on the team and we work really well together.”
“Both girls complement each other very well,” Franzyshen said. “Maria is our best returning scorer from last year and Kristen is starting as a freshman, so they both have a lot to handle. However, I think both of them playing together and being there for each other has helped to ease that pressure.”

Sean Walsh has been named the girls 2017 New Jersey coaches of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday the state-by-state winners of its fourth annual High School Coach of the Year award for cross country.
Sean Walsh has been named the girls 2017 New Jersey coaches of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The North Hunterdon girls won their first NJSIAA Meet of Champions title since 1986 this past November under the coaching of Sean Walsh. After some close calls in previous years they proved to be dominant all season long in 2017. Their squad makes a full comeback next year so this could just be the beginning of something even greater.
Sean will receive a trophy and the USTFCCCA will choose between each state winner for the final National Coach of the Year award. That honor is to be announced later this month.

North Hunterdon wrestling leans on experience in the middle to roll past rival Voorhees
North Hunterdon is a young team but is hoping to build around a nucleus of experience in the middleweights as it continues to press through the always-challenging grind of the Skyland Conference-Raritan Division.
Wrestling against rival Voorhees on Wednesday in a key divisional showdown, it was a matchup of strengths and weaknesses as Voorhees rolled in the upperweights to start the match but North Hunterdon rallied back when its core in the middle rattled off eight straight wins to close out a 42-22 victory in Glen Garden.
North Hunterdon freshman Frank Diesso was named the match’s outstanding wrestler after scoring a 5-0 decision over senior Colby Koskinski at 113.
