Why Academic Integrity?

Focus Topic

Our planning team has selected academic integrity as the focus of our project.

Why Academic Integrity?

Cheating and academic integrity connects to every discipline in the school and every stakeholder in our school, so the proposed project will be a school-wide initiative.

Academic dishonesty has been identified as a significant problem in schools from elementary grades through college in both the media and in research. In headlines over the past year, we have seen stories about students paying others to take their SATs, college students losing credits because of plagiarism, and teachers and administrators cheating on high-stakes testing.

“If cheating behavior is seen as normal, there is no violation of ethics and thus no need for neutralization” (Rettinger & Kramer, 2009).
