National STUDENT-Athlete Day – April 6th is a program of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and is co-sponsored with The NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society.

These organizations recognize those North Hunterdon High School senior athletes who have achieved excellence in academics (3.0 GPA and above) and in athletics, while making significant contributions to the community.  Congratulations to those senior athletes.

Amanda Neal places 1st in National Cheerleading Championships

AmandaNeal-NationalChampionNorth Hunterdon Varsity Cheerleader, Amanda Neal, won 1st Place National Champion in the Senior Cheerleader Division at Cheer Ltd.’s CANAM National High School Cheerleading Championships in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 15, 2013.
Ranking 1st is an incredible accomplishment, because this is the first time Amanda has ever competed as an individual, and she was one of the youngest in her division, which was comprised of 10th-12th graders. Amanda is a sophomore.
Amanda competed against individuals from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut for this honor.

She won a National Champion jacket and a large trophy.

Congratulations to Amanda for representing North Hunterdon High School and the cheerleading program with this wonderful honor.

Format is the same as District squad

There are a few rules’ we would like to bring to your attention and ask you to share with your team members.

*        The only individuals allowed on the floor during a bout are Director, Coach, and individual fencer.  All other team members must stay off the basketball court floor.  Spectators in the stands.

*        It is mandatory that an open walk area be kept clear along the whole perimeter of each gym for compliance with state fire/safety codes. Please ask your team members to stay in the stands.

*        No weapons or equipment allowed on the gym floor except for current fencers’ spare weapons and body cord that should be kept between strips.  If sitting on lowest seat, weapon must be stored behind you.

*        No bottled water on the floor.  Keep it in the stands.  No food or drinks allowed in gyms.

*        There will be an admission charge to help defray the cost of awards; Adults $7.00, K – 12 $4.00 and age 65+ $4.00.  Small bills welcome!

EVERY SCHOOL MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT:

A working electric strip:

*        Scoring machine

*        2 reels

*        2 floor cords

*        One 50 ft. or longer extension cord

*        Weights, shims and stop watch for Epee

*        Weights and stop watch for Foil

Indoor Track Group 4 Results

NHHS-TRACKCongratulations to Brette Wilson, Caty Whalen, and Morgan Harvey as they qualified for the New Jersey State Meet of Champions last  Saturday 2/16/13.  Morgan Harvey qualified in the 400 meters and was 2nd in the 55 high hurdles.  Brette Wilson placed 4th in the Pole Vault, and Caty Whalen qualified in the Shot Put.  The girls will compete this Saturday 2/23/13 in Toms River.

Congratulations to Dave Folsom, Nick Skelton, Erik Adamcik, and Trevor Knowles on their medal-winning performances in the Group 4 track meet.  These boys will be joined by Pete Dehkes as they move on to the Meet of Champions this Saturday at Toms River on 2/23/13

They had an excellent powerful performance in a tough division! Thats the best we have ever ranked in North History and a near perfect routine!There were 25 teams in their division. They were 3 points away from 1st place!!

Congratulations to the following Girl’s Track and Field athletes for qualifying for the Group IV State Championships last night in Toms River.  Brette Wilson is the 2013 Sectional Champion in the Pole Vault.  Cristina Walton placed 2nd in the Vault.  Morgan Harvey finished 4th in the 400 meters and 3rd in the 55 high hurdles.  Caty Whalen placed 5th in the Shot Put and Megan Sergison placed 5th in the 3200 meters.

Impact Testing for Spring Athletes

All tests begin at 3 pm in the library. If you need to reschedule please see Mrs. Korbul in the athletic training room.

The Impact test scheduled for tommorrow Tuesday 2/26 for the Boys Lacrosse team has been cancelled. Mrs. Korbul will run a second test on Thursday after the Boys track test at 3:oo for anyone who can stay. The test will begin at approx. 3:50 and end about 4:45. She will also hold a test on Friday March 1st at 2:30 in the library for any boys lacrosse team members who cannot make thursday at 3:50.

Overall Placement: 1 Central, 2 Del Val, 3. North Hunterdon. 11 teams competed in all.

Top 6 individual wins were performed by Maddie Hynoski who placed 2nd in the 100 freestyle and 6th in the 50 freestyle, Tori Braun who placed 5th in the 100 backstroke, and Claire Lee placing 6th in the 500 freestyle and in the 100 breaststroke.  Congratulations on a job very well done girls.

Skyland Indoor Track Championships – Boys Second Place and Girls Fifth Place

NHHS-TRACKCongratulations to the following boys track team members for their medal-winning performances on Saturday at the Skyland Indoor track Championships:  Nick  Skelton, Josh Knaub, Erik Adamcik, Dave Folsom, John Serian, Trevor, Knowles, Nick Seibert, and Pete Dehkes.  Erik Adamcik set a new indoor conference record with a vault of 14′ 3 1/2 “.  The team finished second the team scoring.

“Congratulations to Morgan Harvey as she is the Indoor Skyland Conference Champion in both the 55 high hurdles and 400 meters.  Other place winners for the Lady Lions included Carly Pannella(55 meter dash), Brette Wilson(pole vault), Caty Whalen(shot put)and the 4 by 400 relay team of Morgan Harvey, Hannah McGowan, Cailyn Lavigne, and Sally Falk.  Great job girls!”
