With Ray Sellaro expected to lead the pack, the Lions have a solid core seeking to qualify for the group meet for an eighth straight season. Sellaro ran a PR last season of 16:11 at the Central Jersey, Group 4 meet, which was his breakout meet because he scored for the first time in a championship meet and led the Lions by placing third overall. Sellaro, junior Joseph Gallo (17:24 Holmdel PR) and senior Austin Frank (17:36) represent the returning three from the Lions’ top five at sectionals last season. Senior Connor Berso (18:06), junior Will Arnold (19:09) and seniorMichael Krummenacker (19:25) could also be in the mix if they close the gap on the veterans.

North Hunterdon girls soccer season preview, 2016
North Hunterdon finished with 12 wins in 2015 as the team to beat in the Raritan Division. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them atop the standings again this season with the return of Nina Bussanich andMadeline Wolf. Bussanich might be one of the top returning talents in the state after leading the Lions with 21 goals as a junior. North Hunterdon boys soccer team previews, 2016
A year after winning the H/W/S Tournament title, the Lions took a step backward last season after losing much of its firepower from that championship team. As a result, North scored just 24 goals in 18 games and suffered its first sub-.500 season (7-9-2) since 2012. Coach John Simpson‘s answer to that is bringing back a wealth of experience. Working from the back line, senior keeper Tyler Peragallo, senior center back Mark Winter, senior center mid Joey Steitz, and junior center midMichael Sabatella have not only experienced the highs and lows of varsity soccer but they should be among the area’s best players. Assuming expanded roles on varsity are senior mid/defender Byron Jurkouich, senior defenders Cole Marra andMatt Martinez, senior striker Jordan Sawaged, and junior mid Gabe Volpe. Varsity newcomers who bring exceptional speed to the front are seniors Dylan Ottinger and Jack Carroll. North Hunterdon girls tennis preview, 2016
North Hunterdon returns a solid core from its 13-4 team last year and is looking to do even better. The Lions finished second in the HWS Tournament and defeated Kearny, 5-0, in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 tournament before falling to Ridge in the quarterfinals.
North Hunterdon will return four of its top five players for the 2016 season, losing only second-singles player Jessica Graham. Sophomore Alexa Vasile is back to lock down first singles after a solid freshman season, finishing with eight wins. Junior Kiera Horun played well at third singles last year with a 13-4 record and is ready to replace Graham at second singles.
Seniors Hannah Trinity and Catrina Gutescu are back after going 13-3 at first doubles, which gave North Hunterdon a duo it could count on, although Trinity will move up to play third singles. Senior Ana Vlad will be Gutescu’s partner at first doubles.

Over in Annandale, a trio of juniors — Molly Stockwell, Danielle Tostevin and Emily Pomrinca — will serve as the backbone of the North Hunterdon squad, which finished 4-4 last season in dual meets and seventh at the Central Jersey, Section 2 meet under the direction of Mike Schuetz.

Key returnees: Nicole Perez, Sr., F.
Outlook for 2016: The Lions had a very tough 2015, and lost most of their key players to graduation, including goalie Liz Rotolo, who made 305 saves. But if some new players can step in and perform this season, the Lions should be able to add to the win column.

3rd Annual Running of the Lions 5K Run and Walk – Sunday October 9
In just 6 weeks, the 3rd Annual Running of the Lions 5K Run and Walk will be held on Sunday, October 9. This is the North Hunterdon Education Foundation (NHEF)’s biggest fund raiser of the year and has allowed us the opportunity to fund items such as two water filtration stations, a science refrigeration for Anatomy classes, a color printer for the Special Education Business program. We’ve also funded the Career and College Resource Center to help our students in the career and college process. The NHEF needs your support to encourage the community to participate (Running, Walking or Volunteering) in the event.
It only costs $20 to register. Participants will receive a great T-shirt, a gift bag, and have a fun time exercising with the North Hunterdon community. Runners will be timed and awards will be given in a number of categories. Register at www.Runsignup.com.
The run is going to take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Spruce Run Recreation Area at 10am. There will be a prize for the team, student organization or group with the most students registered for the race. We would like to see this event become a tradition that the whole North Hunterdon High School Community supports! Can we count on your help? Please contact Kristen Johnson at skjohnson212@comcast.net if you have any questions.
Warmly,
The NHEF Trustees

NHHS Booster Club Parent Welcome Letter 2016-17
A big warm WELCOME to the Class of 2020 and their families – and a big warm WELCOME BACK to everyone else!! The North Hunterdon Booster Club supports athletic and academic excellence, promotes sportsmanship, and preserves the history and tradition of accomplishment for all student athletes.
I am looking forward to another incredible year of North Athletics. This year we are planning on boosting school spirit with our #UltimateFan contest among the students. The kids will be challenged to attend various events at school and take a spirited picture using that hash tag. A few winners will be picked each week. We are also going to be raising money with our new “Coaches vs Cancer” year long event. We will calendar each sports teams Cancer initiative fundraising event and at the Relay for Life in May, will announce the total dollars raised by our teams. T-shirts will be on sale in October.
The North Hunterdon Booster Club is a 501c3 organization (tax exempt status) that consists of parents, staff and coaches working together to enrich our athletic community. We ask all families to become members and we ENCOURAGE PARENT PARTICIPATION as a way to become involved with the school’s activities and also make some friends along the way.
The money raised through membership, fundraising activities, clothing sales, and the snack shack help to sponsor our seasonal coach’s breakfast, our custodian appreciation luncheon in January, Dave the Rave’s birthday celebration in February and our senior athletic banquet in June. At our banquet, we present one senior from each athletic team with a scholarship. The Varsity athletes vote for the senior teammate that sets an example of leadership and sportsmanship throughout their season. In 2013 we purchased and dedicated a new scoreboard for Singley Field and in 2015 we purchased equipment for our athletic trainers.
PARENT MEMBERSHIP AND INVOLVEMENT IS IMPORTANT TO OUR SUCCESS!!!
The NHHS Booster Club is continually looking for members who are able to volunteer their time and efforts to support our student-athletes. We are very much in need of volunteers to step in to coordinator and officer positions. We invite all athletic families to join the main booster club. Your family membership fee of $25 (for the entire year) allows you to be involved in fundraising activities such as working the concession stand, selling raffle tickets, helping with our coaches breakfasts, custodian luncheon and our senior athletic awards banquet.
We have 26 teams who have organized “Umbrella Clubs”. They may charge additional dues to cover expenses like sandwiches for away games and banquet fees for their team. We meet with the reps from each team monthly to talk about fundraising and volunteering opportunities. They communicate all information with you through email. Each team is required to have 75% of their JV/Varsity families join the Main Booster Club to be covered by our insurance.
Our North spirit wear can be purchased at Back to School nights, and all year at our outdoor and indoor snack shacks. You can find the items and prices on the Booster Club webpage. On the main page, click on parent link at top and choose Booster Club from drop down options.
You can find our membership form under ‘Join’ on our BC webpage or click HERE to go to the membership page. We also accept Paypal payments. Our Paypal button can also be found on our webpage. Please join us and support all the student-athletes at NHHS.
Thanks in advance for your support of the booster club and GO NORTH!

Attention freshmen boys soccer parents
With around 50 freshmen trying out next week and needing IMPACT Test clearance we are making an adjustment to the schedule. Monday will be IMPACT Test only with two separate groups. At 1pm we will take the first half of the boys alphabetically from Ailara to Lesica. The test is in room 128 (hallway to the left of the theater…walk straight back to the end). The test takes roughly an hour. Once this group is complete they can go home. The second group is Logar to Zhang and they are to take their test at 3pm. Once finished they can go home.
All freshmen who pass the IMPACT test and are cleared will begin tryouts onTuesday Aug 23 through Friday from 3:15-5:30 roughly. We expect to make a decision for cuts by that Friday. The first team practice following cuts will be Sat Aug 27 from 8am-10am.
I do not have all of the freshmen on this distribution list so if you know of someone trying out please pass this on so word can spread. Thanks and good luck to all.
