It required a stubborn, no-quit mentality to stay in the game when Bridgewater-Raritan was dominating the line of scrimmage.
Once North Hunterdon settled into an offensive rhythm, it took a trick play to pull off one of the most dramatic victories in school history.
With precious seconds dripping off the clock late in the game, the Lions pulled off the hook-and-lateral to perfection, as quarterback Matt Busher hit Griffin Honthywith a 5-yard hitch and Honthy lateraled to Connor McMahon who sprinted 75 yards for the winning touchdown with 1:48 left in a 21-14 homecoming win over Bridgewater on Friday evening.
After a terrific Mid-State 37 Conference battle, the Lions (5-0) remained unbeaten and have matched their best start in 31 years. They also defeated Bridgewater for the first time in four years.
