John Wilson threw nine innings, allowed one run on eight hit and struck out 12 as the Lions knocked off the Red Devils in a thrilling, 3-1, victory in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Tournament in Basking Ridge on Wednesday.
After losing the lead with only one out left in the game, the North Hunterdon High School baseball team looked to a sophomore for the game winning hit in a dramatic extra inning game.
Sophomore right fielder Matt Busher smacked a two-run single up the middle with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lead 14th-seeded North Hunterdon to a 3-1 upset victory over third-seeded Ridge in the first round of the NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 tournament on a blazing hot Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions (16-11) will face 11th-seeded Elizabeth in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.
