Hunterdon County baseball: Hunterdon Central, North Hunterdon, Voorhees, DelVal all have high hopes for states

Posted: May 12, 2017 | Entry Type: Post

North Hunterdon, which won its section as the ninth seed last year, is 13-7 with a six-game winning streak and winners of eight of its last nine games, which included revenge wins over Ridge and Montgomery.

North has only lost one game by more than three runs this season. The Lions are expected to be the No. 13th seed in North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 and would play at the fourth seed, which is expected to be Phillipsburg (11-7) or Watchung Hills (11-8), teams they have lost to.

Grant Sible is batting .362 for the Lions with four homers, 14 RBI and 11 of his 21 hits have been for extra bases. John Macce is batting .362 with 16 RBI and 16 runs scored, Matt Busher is hitting .413 with 12 RBI and 17 runs, Matt Wagner is hitting .379 and Billy Russo .320. Tim Schumacher is 4-0 pitching with an ERA of 1.81, Jack Kennedy is 3-2 with a 1.61 ERA and Busher is 3-2 with an ERA of 1.75.

“The pitching has kept us in every game, but now we’re putting the ball in play and making the routine plays on defense,” said North’s veteran skipper Mike Kane, whose club is averaging 5.6 runs per game, while giving up 3.5. “We’re really starting to click and there’s no reason to think we can’t do what we did last year.”
