North Hunterdon’s Matt Busher is the Courer News Football Player of the Week

Posted: | Entry Type: Post
mattbusherqb2016Congratulations to Matt Busher for being named the Courier News Football Player of the Week

North Hunterdon junior quarterback Matt Busher knows what it takes to compete at a high level. As a two-sport athlete, who spends his springs on the baseball diamond as a pitcher and catcher, Busher is accustomed to taking command of the game regardless of the sport he is playing.

While some student-athletes may take command and lead their peers with inspiring words, Busher is more of a “lead by example guy.”

“He’s not the most vocal guy on the practice field,” Lions coach Jared Mazetta said. “The players just gravitate toward him because of what he has been able to do on the field.”

Last week in North Hunterdon’s 31-22 victory over Immaculata, Busher completed 13-of-27 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown and added two more scores as he accumulated 73-yards on the ground.

For his exceptional play, Busher was  named the Courier News Football Player of the Week.

On the field this season, the 6-foot, 175-pound quarterback has accounted for 12 total touchdowns with 426 passing yards and 339 rushing yards. His duel-threat ability helped seventh-ranked North Hunterdon (3-1) earn three-straight road wins, none more impressive than the Mid-State 38 Raritan Division, Courier News Top 10 showdown against No. 9 Immaculata.

To overcome resistance and drive participation, #MyReasonWhy highlights diverse stories and memories shared by students, parents, coaches, officials and community members. We’re working together to show how participation not only develops individual skills and character for the future, but drives a stronger sense of self and community that students will feel immediately and for the rest of their lives.
