Congratulations to the Vikings of Voorhees for Two-Peating the Lions of North in their second Unified Basketball game 30-28 at the well-attended and spirited Viking Fortress at Voorhees High School.
The Vikings were led by the dominating all around play of Bruce (Almighty) Fujihuara who led the Vikes with 10 points and dominating inside play. Other Viking contributors were: Emma Hintz and Will Layfield with 8 points and Will Lyons with 4 points.

The Vikings win the Inaugural Unified Sports Basketball game 42-40 in a buzzer beater over the Lions
Congratulations to the Vikings of Voorhees for winning the Inaugural Unified Sports Basketball game against the Lions of North Hunterdon 42-40 tonight in a superb inclusive community event at North Hunterdon High School.
The Vikings were led by the dominating inside play of super freshmen Bruce Fujihuara who led all scorers with 24 points, dominated the boards and had the game winning basket with time running out. Other Viking contributors were: Will Layfield 10 points; Emma Hintz 4 points; Will Lyons and Dylan Dairymple
had 2 points.
The Lions were led by the fleet footed play of Katie Higgins who led the Lions with 12 points. Other Lion contributors were: Luke Rigatti 10 points; Hannah Walsh 8 points; Jessica Wescott 4 points and Joe Reed, Hannah Trinity and Penny Johnson had 2 points apiece.

The Lady Lions were led by sophomore guard Alexa Vasile who came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points for North in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Girls Hoops Tournament.
The Lions stifled Piscataway in the first quarter, forcing 10 turnovers and blanking the Chiefs in that period to forge a 24-0 lead. In fact, Piscataway did not register a field goal for the first 11:25 of the game. North Hunterdon received balanced scoring — six players had six points or more — and Brittany Goepfert (five rebounds) and Jordan Beneducci (four assists) did outstanding work in the paint.
The Lions’ reward for reaching the quarterfinals is a date this Wednesday at 6pm with Franklin, No. 12 in the NJ.com Top 20.

Launch of Unified Special Olympics Sports
The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District is launching a Unified Sports program through the Special Olympics New Jersey Play Unified School Partnership. The Unified Sports program will bring together students with and without disabilities to play basketball as a team this March, with track potentially added later.
North Hunterdon students and staff members came out on February 23rd to show their support for this new initiative (see photo). North’s Play Unified team will play its first game against Voorhees on March 8th at 5pm in North’s main gym.
