Melissa Meiners went 3-for-3 with one double and three runs, including one home run, as North Hunterdon defeated Immaculata, 14-4, in Annandale.

Meghan Graham went 2-for-4 with one triple, one double, two RBI and two runs while Eliza Filus went 2-for-4 with one double, two RBI and two runs for North Hunterdon, which had a total of 15 hits and scored eight runs in the fourth inning. Julia Apsel pitched four innings, allowing eight hits, with four strikeouts and one walk while Maggie Swan went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and one run. Maria Newsome went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs while Karli House scored two runs.

The senior catcher went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the Lions’ 8-0 win over Warren Hills on Monday.

Pitcher Maggie Swan earned the win from the circle for the Lions, going six innings and allowing just a mere two hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Connor McMahon tallied four goals and Rob Scimeca added three goals to lead North Hunterdon to an 11-7 victory over Bernards in Annandale.

Bobby Brennan had two goals with an assist, Sean McQuade posted a goal with two assists, and Jason Chioda had a score for North Hunterdon, which scored six second period goals to take an 8-2 halftime advantage.

Fast Lady revival: North Hunterdon girls edge rivals for Skyland Relays title

The Lady Lion Track & Field team clinched the Skyland Conference Delaware Division title with one event to go and finished off its early season championship with a 93-90 win over Ridge while Franklin finished third with 63 points.

Anna DiMarcello, Elena DiMarcello, Kelley McCarten and Emily Nugent led the way for both gold medals in the in the 4×800 and 4×1600. The 4×800 won in 9:26.69 while the 4×1600 stopped the clock in 21:35.23.

North got another first-place finish in the javelin relay as Jordan Beneducci (99-3), Carla Faust (94-1) and Emma Brennan (94-1) combined for the gold medal with a total distance of 284-10. Beneducci and Faust also recorded top five throws in the shot put and discus

Senior Megan Stenberg added a well-rounded presence in multiple events. Stenberg — along with Kelly Mahaney, Emma Mikitiuk and Jill Paciga – won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:03.62 while Stenberg also ran a leg on the second place sprint medley to go along with a 16-0 in the long jump and 32-8 3/4 in the triple jump. Offensive outburst leads North Hunterdon to season’s 1st win against Immaculata

After a pair of anemic losses to start the season, North Hunterdon got exactly what it needed in the fourth inning on Friday. A six-run outburst in that frame vaulted North Hunterdon into the lead and kicked off what would ultimately become an 11-6 win over Immaculata at Diamond Nation.

National Student-Athlete Day – April 6th is a program of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and is co-sponsored with The NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society.

These organizations recognize those North Hunterdon High School senior athletes who have achieved excellence in academics (3.0 GPA and above) and in athletics, while making significant contributions to the community.  Congratulations to those senior athletes.

Mike Murray pitched five innings, allowing five hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk as Watchung Hills defeated North Hunterdon, 7-2, in Annandale.

Brandon Hylton and Jeff Poggi each hit solo home runs while Tyler Riley went 1-for-3 with two RBI for Watchung Hills, which had a total of nine hits and scored three runs in the seventh inning. James McKenna went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Tyler Kulisz went 1-for-3 with three runs. Kevin Sylvestri pitched two innings, allowing two hits, with three strikeouts and no walks.

North Hunterdon’s Meghan Graham gets 100th hit

North Hunterdon softball player Meghan Graham had her 100th career hit in the Lions’ 7-3 home win over Ridge on Monday.

The senior center fielder had a double and two RBIs in the season-opening victory.

Graham, who will play at George Mason University, hit .462 and was tied for fifth in New Jersey with 49 hits last season.

Game Report 4-2-17: Special Olympics Shriver Cup Basketball Championship Game #2: North Unified Hoops (19) vs. Voorhees Unified Hoops (36)

Congratulations to the Vikings of Voorhees for Three-Peating the North Unified Hoops this season in the second round of the Special Olympics Shriver Cup Basketball Tournament 36-19 at the Jadwin Gymnasium on Princeton University campus

The Lions trailed at halftime 14-6 with the halftime leading scorers from North being Katie Higgins with 6 points and Voorhees being Bruce Fujihuara who had 10 points.The Vikings were led by the dominating inside play of super freshmen Bruce (Almighty)Fujihuara who led all scorers with 16 points and dominating the boards. Other Viking contributors were: Emma Hintz 8 points; Dylan Dairymple had 6 points; William Layfield 4 points and William Lyons with 2 points.

The Lions were led by the supersonic play of Katie (Stealth Bomber) Higgins who led the Lions scorers with 12 points. Other Lion contributors were: Penny Johnson 4 points; Luke Rigatti 2 points and Jessica Wescott with 1 point.

Congratulations to the North Hunterdon-Voorhees HS District for finishing the Unified Basketball season in a special fashion. Thanks to all the NHVRHSD Unified staff, coaches and players for making this a memorable inclusive hoops season!

The Unified Monroe Township Falcons Hoops team tops the Unified Lions in the first round of the Special Olympics Shriver Cup Basketball Tournament 46-22 at the Jadwin Gymnasium on Princeton University campus.

The Lions trailed at halftime 22-12 with the halftime leading scorers from North being Penny Johnson and Jessica Wescott who had 4 points apiece.

Girls Lacrosse: Nicole Perez scores seven goals for North Hunterdon in 14-2 win over Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG — The North Hunterdon girls lacrosse team opened up its game against Phillipsburg with seven goals in the first 10 minutes to cruise to a 14-2 victory over the Stateliners on the road.

Senior Nicole Perez was unstoppable offensively for North Hunterdon with seven goals by using her speed as the fastest player on the field to zip through the Phillipsburg defense. After senior Maeve Green scored the first goal of the game for North Hunterdon in the first minute, Perez went on a run of three consecutive goals in the next three minutes to give the Lions a 4-0 early lead. 

“We were placing our shots well and didn’t have many shots straight to the goalie,” said Perez.

“Nicole just knows how to get it done,” said Ditze. “She has been playing for four years on the varsity level and has the most experience on the team. When that ball is in her stick she figures out a way to get it into that cage.”

The North Hunterdon and Delaware Valley High School Community experienced another delightful inclusive event.

The Unified Del Val Terriers Hoops team tops the Unified Lions in a magnificent inclusive game 41-36 at the well-attended and highly spirited Terrier Dog pound at Delaware Valley High School.

The Lions took an 18-17 lead going into halftime after being down 8 points after the first quarter. The comeback attack was led by the timely shooting of Katie Higgins and Hannah Trinity for the Lions. Gina Saluccio hit a big 3-pointer to keep the game close along with 9 first half points for the Terriers. The Terriers pulled away in the second half to seal the win with the one-two punch of Jeff Bill and Ryan Theobald aggressive and big-time play.

The Terriers were led by the dominating sharp shooting play of Gina (Drop the mic ) Saluccio who led the Terriers with 11 points and dominating outside play including a 3-point shot. Other Terrier contributors were: Jeff Bill and Ryan Theobald with 8 points apiece; Daniel Jordan with 6 points; Logan Walker with 4 points; Grace Husek and Lily Brady with 2 points.
The Lions were led by Katie (Stealth Bomber) Higgins who led the Lions and all scorers with 12 points and 4 steals. Other Lion contributors were: Hannah Walsh 8 points; Hannah Trinity with 6 points; Jessica Wescott with 4 points; Penny Johnson, Luke Rigatti and Gina Monticello had 2 points apiece.

 

North Brunswick (11) at North Hunterdon (8) – Girls Lacrosse

Nicole Perez had a hat trick for North Hunterdon. Jen DuFresne and Katie Fullowan each scored twice, while Maeve Plassche had a goal and an assist in the loss.

Cassie Oake had a hat trick and an assist for North Brunswick in an 11-8 win over North Hunterdon in Annandale.
Hayley Greenberg and Elena Vargas each had a hat trick for North Brunswick. Victoria Tucci tallied two goals and three assists, while Natalie Chapman made 14 saves in the win.

Maeve Green added two goals for North Hunterdon. Natalie Fitzpatrick, Maeve Plassche, Samantha VanBelle, and Katie Fullowan also found the back of the net.
Angela Masessa scored a game-high six goals for Montgomery.
