Hunterdon County Democrat girls soccer update: Hunterdon Central has responded since opening-season loss
It’s been feast or famine for the Lions (4-2) so far. They’ve won their four games by an 8-2 margin overall, while in their two losses they’ve been outscored 9-2. Tlhey have been outscored 11-10, but have posted two shutouts.
Kristin Wolf scored twice against Warren Hills and has three goals to pace the Lions. Katy Poltrack and Erin Kepenis each have two and Emma D’Alessandro, Ali DeAngelis and Kate Fullowan have one.

Hunterdon County Democrat boys soccer update: South Hunterdon off to its best start
The Lions (3-4) began the campaign 1-4 but have won their last two matches. David Moreira scored twice and Gabe Volpe and Michael Sabatella each scored once in a 4-1 victory over Hillsborough, and Ryan Reed and Zach Alaira scored and Volpe added two assists in a 2-0 victory over Voorhees.
Moreira paces the Lions with three goals, Zach Ailara has two, and Volpe, Reed, Dominick Rusillo, Chris Hale and Michael Sabatella have all connected for North.

Girls Tennis: North Hunterdon Lions are victorious at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament
WASHINGTON — The North Hunterdon girls tennis team dethroned Hunterdon Central and won the 2017 Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament Monday afternoon at Warren Hills.
The Lions finished with three winners of the five flights and totaled 23 points. The Red Devils, who won from 2012-16, finished in second place with 21 points and had the remaining two winners. It is the North Hunterdon’s first HWS Tournament title since 2011.

Ryan Reed and Zach Ailara had one goal each for North Hunterdon in its 2-0 win over Voorhees.
Gabe Volpe had two assists, and Nick Fetten made two saves in net to secure the shutout victory for North Hunterdon.

Girls Cross Country: Middletown South, North Hunterdon, Ridge excel at Bernie Magee Class Meet
MORRIS PLAINS: North Hunterdon was more than capable of performing well and did just that and possibly found some depth along the way. It was hardly a surprise to see Elena DiMarcello win the girls junior 2 race in 18:59.1, followed by teammate Emily Nugent at 19:05. The Lions won the junior 2 team title as they slightly edged Ridge, 18-19.
Chloe Gonzalez easily set a new PR on the sophomore girls 2 race, taking the victory in 19:11 which puts her as the Lions’ fifth best runner in the past year based on times. Her previous best was set at 21:03 at last season’s Skyland Conference Championships.

MORRIS PLAINS: North Hunterdon was able to take some hardware home with a win in the junior 2 race. Dillon Adamy beat Passaic‘s Luis Peralta for the top spot, finishing ahead of Peralta by just over three seconds in 16:22. Christopher Fischer’s fifth-place finish in 16:38.1 helped propel the Lions, who outscored second-place finisher Westfield 16-38, to a win. Gavin Richards took silver at the Boys sophomore Race 2.

North Hunterdon improved to 2-0 on the football season with a 31-13 win over visiting Warren Hills (1-1) in a Mid-State 37 Raritan Division game at the Lions’ Singley Field Friday night.
The Lions (2-0) got 100-yard rushing nights from senior running back Luke Wain(128) and senior quarterback Matt Busher (121) as they controlled the second half after leading just 10-7 at the half.
North scored touchdowns on plays of 23, 47, and 62 yards.

North Hunterdon’s Matt Busher meets expectations in season-opening win versus Summit (WITH VIDEO)
The Lions looked impressive in a season-opening victory. North opened the game by recovering an onside kick and scored on its first play from scrimmage, then retorted immediately after Summit took a second-quarter lead with another long scoring pass, and clinched it early in the fourth quarter with the game-winning drive.
