Students will begin to develop the skills and strategies that promote <\/span><b>personal and financial responsibility <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">related to financial planning, savings, investment, and charitable giving in the global economy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Financial Literacy is a <\/span><b>graduation requirement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> satisfying the 9.2 Personal Financial Literacy Standard \u00a0of the New Jersey Core Curriculum content area, 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 Century Life and Careers. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>9.2 Personal Financial Literacy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: All students will develop skills and strategies that promote personal and financial responsibility related to financial planning, savings, investment, and charitable giving in the global economy. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is a semester-long course for <\/span><b>2.5 credits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that must be completed <\/span><b>independently<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of the graduation requirements in the areas of Social Studies, Mathematics, or Practical Arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Financial Literacy will introduce students to concepts of personal finance in the following units: \u00a0Career Exploration, Paycheck and Taxes, Planning and Money Management, Savings and Investments, Credit and Debt, and Risk Management and Insurance.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to developing skills in the area of financial literacy, students will develop <\/span><b>basic skills across the curriculum including basic literacies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in reading, writing, listening, speaking, information, economics, technology, mathematics, visual and global studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will gain knowledge in navigating the <\/span><b>information network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of Voorhees High school that will be beneficial throughout their high school career and beyond. \u00a0Students will develop individual profiles via<\/span><b> Naviance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the guidance department to assist in developing their post \u2013 secondary plans. \u00a0Students will work on computers for research purposes, assessments and communication with the instructor.
