{"id":604,"date":"2022-08-11T11:47:32","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T15:47:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/vhs\/socialstudies\/mgalal\/?page_id=604"},"modified":"2025-08-11T12:04:02","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T16:04:02","slug":"world-history-adv","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/vhs\/socialstudies\/mgalal\/world-history-adv\/","title":{"rendered":"World History ADV Classroom Policy &amp; Expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>In order to maintain a fair playing field and support the success of all students I cannot accept excuses or make exceptions to these policies.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Course Textbook and Resources<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Course Text: <em>Modern World History<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Albert.io: for student practice and review<\/li>\n<li>Google Classroom (if you are a parent\/guardian your child can give you access)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Class Expectations:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>Take responsibility for your own learning and your own actions. <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Be in class, prepared with all required materials, and ready to work once the bell has rung.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Follow directions<\/strong> the first time they are given and do not interrupt when someone else is speaking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be respectful<\/strong> of yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and any visitors to the classroom at all times.<\/li>\n<li>No food, drink, or gum will be permitted in the classroom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learning is a cooperative process<\/strong>.\u00a0 Please plan on participating regularly and please stay on task as to not disrupt personal learning and the learning environment of fellow classmates.<\/li>\n<li>All assignments are to be completed and handed in on time.<\/li>\n<li>Cheating\/Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in a zero for the assignment. Collabration does not mean the copying and pasting of one person&#8217;s work on to your work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Cell Phone\/Electronics:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>These are allowed for educational purposes only. You will be able to use these with the teacher\u2019s explicit instruction ONLY. <strong>Otherwise, all electronics will be confiscated, even on the first offense<\/strong>.\u00a0 Cell phones are to be kept in the student&#8217;s backpack or storage unit provided in the classroom depending on the teacher&#8217;s direction.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Notebooks:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students will be working on digital notebooks that will be graded for accurate completion and following instructions. Students are usually allowed to use these notebooks for the completion of many assessments so it is in their best interest to do their best work.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Points to Note:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>No extra credit will be offered on an individual basis or upon request.<\/li>\n<li>Marking period grades stand as is (not rounded)<\/li>\n<li>Late work is never accepted for full credit (unless arranged with teacher)<\/li>\n<li>Deadlines are non-negotiable; you must take responsibility for your actions as well as your lack of action. Forgetting or bad time management are not valid excuses.<\/li>\n<li>Scheduled assignments are not extended due to absence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Assessments:<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Group Work\/Projects\/Presentations:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students are expected to be active participants when working in groups and will be held accountable for their individual contributions. Students who are absent during a group presentation may be required to present their portion of the presentation to the teacher upon their return from school.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Tests:\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Chapter\/unit tests will be announced on the calendar and in class. Tests constitute the largest portion of the marking period grade and will be comprised of multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions. Quizzes, special projects (individual or group), and essays are also graded as part of the test category.<\/p>\n<p>Students who are allowed extra time must come after school on the same day to complete assessment. If a student does not complete the assessment on the day of testing the extra time will be considered forfeited. and the exam will be graded as is.<\/p>\n<p>All make-up tests will be given after school (2:30 &#8211; 3:10 pm) within a week of student absence. Please be advised that make-up tests will not be the same assessment that was administered to the class as a whole. Student are encouraged to do their best to attend class on the day of assessments so they may stay at pace with the class.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Quizzes: <\/span><\/h4>\n<p>There will be reading, vocabulary, and unannounced pop quizzes. Quizzes will be given regularly to assess student progress. Quizzes vary in length and can be given during any part of the class period. There will be announced quizzes and unannounced quizzes, as well as collaborative and independent.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Homework:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>While the homework itself is not graded, the expectation is that students are prepared for class therefore students must have their homework on time, every time. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All long-term projects are due on the assigned day whether or not the student attends class. Project presentation days are firm, if you are unexpectedly ill, an immediate email is necessary to prevent any possible deduction of the grade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> The school provides numerous venues where students can print their work before class begins if the printer at home is not available.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Class Participation:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students are expected to be active participants in class, which includes: contributing to class discussions and activities, demonstrating preparedness through completion of assigned readings and homework, and maintaining an organized and up\u2010to\u2010date class notebook.<\/p>\n<p>Work done in class must be submitted upon request, unless otherwise authorized. Work taken home will receive a zero.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Missed Work Due to an Absence:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Work done in class is also recorded in Google Classroom so absent students do not fall behind.<\/p>\n<p>Make up test arrangements can be made with the teacher after class and students can make up missed\u00a0assessments (this only for assignments that were announced or\u00a0done in class during student&#8217;s absence)\u00a0after school within the week of return. The school&#8217;s policy of make-up time is only for work given <strong>during<\/strong> the student&#8217;s absence.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to make up assessments during the allotted time period will result in a zero grade. Students cannot wait till the last week of the quarter to make up all their missed assessments.<\/p>\n<p>Students who miss class due to cutting will not receive credit for missed class work, tests, or homework not handed in.<\/p>\n<p>If absent, students should check Google Classroom for unit modules, as well as updated assignments.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">In-School field Trips &amp; Events:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students attending school events\/programs that take place during scheduled class time need to have\u00a0the appropriate permission slip signed (this includes Guidance passes); this slip is not informational it is my explicit permission that you may miss class without penalty. Students who fail to have the permission form signed or decide to attend the event despite being told, No, will be considered &#8220;cutting class&#8221; and will receive a zero for any work done during that class period(s). No exceptions.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Classroom Conduct:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students are expected and required to arrive prepared (have all necessary materials such as: textbook, notebook, homework, pen, etc.) each day for class and conduct themselves in a respectful, courteous, and tolerant manner as per the discipline policies of the North Hunterdon \u2013 Voorhees School District. Disruptive and disrespectful students will receive detention and may be referred to the school administration for disciplinary action. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the classroom.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Grading Policy:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students will be assessed in a variety of manners. Grades are determined by the use of a cumulative point system (points accumulated divided by points offered).<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is the student\u2019s responsibility to monitor their grades to ensure accuracy and completion<\/strong>. Parents and students can monitor their grades through <strong><em>Aspen.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Grades:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Please remember that I do not give you your grade, you earn the grades.\u00a0Grades are not negotiable; I will be more than happy to discuss how\u00a0students can improve\u00a0their future work if they desire but will not change\u00a0previous assignments.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Semester \/Final Grades:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Grades will be determined according to the calculation and grading scales set by the North Hunterdon \u2013 Voorhees High School District.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Plagiarism:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Plagiarism and\/or cheating of any kind is considered a most serious offense.\u00a0 Should a student be found guilty of plagiarism or cheating, the student will receive an immediate \u20180\u2019 for the assignment.\u00a0 In addition, the student will be referred to the administration to address this violation of the school\u2019s academic code.<\/li>\n<li>Should a student not understand something\u00a0the student\u00a0should not copy another person&#8217;s work.<\/li>\n<li>Bibliographies and proper citations are required at all times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Extra Help:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I will be available most days from 2:30 \u2010 3:10, depending on my professional schedule,\u00a0in Room 315. This time is specifically set aside for students to meet with teachers; please do not hesitate to see me if you have any questions.
