Classwork:

This course has been designed to allow students to work at a guided self-regulated pace; students are expected to use the class time constructively towards the successful completion of the course. The course runs across two marking periods so milestones will be set so that grades are reflected accurately.

Classwork will be posted on Google Classroom so students can best manage their time and scheduling. Classwork consists of reading pertinent articles, viewing videos, and completion of worksheets and quizzes; this work will allow students to be prepared to handle money and make informed financial decisions.

Students who miss class due to cutting will not receive credit for missed class work, tests, or homework not handed in.

Should a student not understand something the student should not copy another person’s work, rather it is in their best interest to address the issue with the teacher as soon as possible.

Please note: The school provides numerous venues where students can print their work before class begins if the printer at home is not available.

Class Participation: Students are expected to be active participants in class, which includes: contributing to class discussions and activities, demonstrating preparedness through completion of assigned work, and being respectful of others.

Grading Policy:

Please remember that I do not give you your grade, you earn the grades. Grades are not negotiable; I will be more than happy to discuss how students can improve their future work if they desire but will not change previous assignments.

Students will be assessed in a variety of manners. Grades are determined by the use of a cumulative point system (points accumulated divided by points offered). Points are then converted to a letter grade as described in your handbook.

It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their grades to ensure accuracy and completion. Parents and students can monitor their grades through Aspen.

Group Work/Projects/Presentations: Students are expected to be active participants when working in groups and will be held accountable for their individual contributions. Students who are absent during a group presentation may be required to present their portion of the presentation to the teacher upon their return from school.

Tests and Quizzes: Quizzes will be given regularly to assess student understanding at the end of each lesson. Unit tests will be done at the end of each topic. All make-up tests will be given after school (2:30 – 3:10pm) within a week of student absence.

Semester /Final Grades: Grades will be determined according to the calculation and grading scales set by the North Hunterdon – Voorhees High School District.

Points to Note:

  • You must take responsibility for your actions, as well as your lack of action. Work assigned for a particular marking period must be done in time for grades to be posted.
    • Forgetting or bad time management are not valid excuses for missing work
    • No extra credit will be offered on an individual basis or upon request
    • Marking period grades are not rounded
    • Use Google Classroom to stay on task.

In-School field Trips & Events: Students attending school events/programs that take place during scheduled class time need to have the appropriate permission slip signed (this includes Guidance passes); this slip is not informational it is my explicit permission that you may miss class without penalty. Students who fail to have the permission form signed or decide to attend the event despite being told, No, will be considered “cutting class” and will receive a zero for any work done during that class period(s). No exceptions.

Extra Help: I will be available most days from 2:30 ‐ 3:10, depending on my professional schedule, in Room 315. This time is specifically set aside for students to meet with teachers; please do not hesitate to see me if you have any questions. Other times can be arranged by appointment.

Parent ‐ Teacher Contact: Parents with questions or concerns should contact the teacher at mgalal@nhvweb.net or (908) 368‐2199 ext. 2089.

In order to maintain a fair playing field and support the success of all students I cannot accept excuses or make exceptions to these policies.
