Students will examine how personal lifestyle choices impact on lifestyle diseases. The course is designed to develop and prepare an informed socially conscious individual who accepts responsibility for their own health and the health of others.<\/p>\n<p><b>Course Objectives<\/b><\/p>\n<p>By the completion of the 18 week period, students will have met the NJ Comprehensive Health Education Standards. They include the following:<\/p>\n<p>2.1 All students will learn health promotion and disease prevention concepts and<\/p>\n<p>health enhancing behaviors<\/p>\n<p>2.2 All students will learn health-enhancing personal, interpersonal, and life skills.<\/p>\n<p>2.3 All students will learn physical, mental, emotional, and social effects of the<\/p>\n<p>use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.<\/p>\n<p>2.4 All students will learn the biological, social, cultural, and physiological<\/p>\n<p>aspects of human sexuality and family life.<\/p>\n<p><b>Topical Outline<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Wellness concepts<\/li>\n<li>Life Management skills<\/li>\n<li>Your physical health<\/li>\n<li>Substance abuse education<\/li>\n<li>Family life education<\/li>\n<li>Environmental health<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Grading<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tests- There will be one test per marking period.<\/li>\n<li>Quizzes- quizzes will be given after each chapter through Moodle<\/li>\n<li>Projects- There will be several projects assigned during the semester<\/li>\n<li>Class participation- students will receive points per day for meeting the following criteria<\/li>\n<li>Current events- \u00a0a current events article summary will be due <b>every Friday<\/b>. The article must relate to health, and must be accompanied by a one paragraph \u00a0summary Articles may or may not be discussed in class.<\/li>\n<li>Class work and homework- this will be assigned and graded periodically<\/li>\n<li>Moodle- Moodle will be the online platform we will be using for this class. You will download notes and worksheets off of this to copy to your google docs health notebook. You will also take quizzes through moodle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Your final marking period grade will be based on the following:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Points earned\/Total points= Final marking period grade<\/p>\n<p><b>Your Final Grade will be determined by the following percentages:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>MP 1 (40%) MP2 (40 %) \u00a0FInal Exam (20%)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>General Class Rules<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><i>Be here<\/i>&#8211; the school attendance policy will apply. If you miss class for any reason, it is <b>your responsibility<\/b> to ask for the work that you may have missed. If you are absent and you knew about an assignment due, or a quiz or test, then you will be responsible for that upon your return.<\/li>\n<li><i>Be on time<\/i>&#8211; \u00a0you must be in the classroom when the bell rings.(You may be referred to the disciplinary office for every three lates)<\/li>\n<li><i>Be prepared for class<\/i>&#8211; this means a charged chromebook, and a pen or pencil.<\/li>\n<li><i>Complete all work on time<\/i>&#8211; (points will be deducted for every day an assignment\u00a0\u00a0is late.)<\/li>\n<li><i>Participate in class discussions<\/i>&#8211; this class will be a lot more interesting if each\u00a0student offers their insights and ideas into class discussions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>6. Do your own work<\/i>&#8211; cheating will not be tolerated and will be referred to\u00a0\u00a0 the\u00a0disciplinary office<\/p>\n<p><i>7. No food or drink in the classroom<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>8.<\/i><i>Electronic devices will be confiscated and turned into the disciplinary office if they are being used at inappropriate times-<\/i> this is your warning<\/p>\n<p><i>9.No hats may be worn during class time<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>10. When the instructor is talking, or a classmate is answering a question or giving a Presentation, your attention is expected&#8212;talking will not be tolerated.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li><b><i> \u00a0CHROMEBOOKS- <\/i><\/b><i>I expect you to pay attention to what is going on in class. It is\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><i>unacceptable to use your chromebooks for anything other than what we are working on in <\/i><i>class when instruction is happening, this includes checking personal email, facebook, <\/i><i>playing games, etc.. If I see you using your chromebook for anything other than what we\u00a0<\/i><i>are doing you will not be allowed to use your chromebook for a set period of time (to<\/i><i>\u00a0be determined in a meeting after class) . Should \u00a0you lose the use of your chromebook,,<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i><b><i>YOU<\/i><\/b><i> will be responsible \u00a0for downloading, printing out, and having with you<\/i><i>\u00a0hardcopies of any \u00a0materials we are working on in class before that class period. If you do\u00a0<\/i><i>\u00a0not \u00a0have those materials with you, \u00a0you will be considered unprepared for class.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Makeup Work<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you are absent from class for an excused reason, you have five school days upon returning to complete any quizzes, tests, or work. Failure to makeup the work will result in a zero.
