COURSE\u200b \u200bDESCRIPTION:<\/span><\/strong>
This course is designed to give students an understanding of the in-depth mechanics of music. We will<\/span>
be studying various aspects of music stemming from its three main components: rhythm, melody, and<\/span>
harmony.<\/span><\/p>\n

MATERIALS:<\/span><\/strong>
Each student is expected to have for every class:<\/span>
1. pencils (absolutely NO assignments will be accepted in pen)<\/span>
2. <\/span>spiral bound manuscript notebook (or printed manuscript paper)<\/span>
3. paper keyboard (or a real piano, keyboard, or virtual keyboard)<\/span>
4. chromebook and headphones
5. binder or folder (or a scanner for storing all materials digitally)<\/span><\/p>\n

MUSIC\u200b \u200bTHEORY\u200b \u200bNOTEBOOK:<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
Each student is expected to keep a music theory notebook. All class notes and assignments should be kept<\/span>
in this notebook along with quizzes and tests. All materials in the notebook should be arranged in a<\/span>
systematic order according to date. The notebook can be a physical notebook or a digital notebook.<\/span><\/p>\n

This notebook will be checked once a marking period and will count as one homework grade. Anyone<\/span>
with an \u201cA\u201d average at the time of the notebook check will receive an automatic \u201cA\u201d for their notebook<\/span>
grade.<\/span><\/p>\n

GRADING:<\/span><\/strong>
This course will run for a half year and will be based on the following types of grades:<\/span><\/p>\n

Homework & In Class Assignments\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 – 40% of marking period grade<\/span>
Sight Singing, Keyboard, & Dictation Grades – 10% of marking period grade<\/span>
Quizzes & Tests\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 – 30% of marking period grade<\/span>
Special Projects\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 – 20% of marking period grade<\/span><\/p>\n

\u25cf Assignment Due Dates Are Firm, but you will be allowed one late assignment per marking period.<\/span>
\u25cf It is your responsibility to stay on top of due dates and to make-up notes, assignments, or quizzes<\/span>
that are missed as the result of absence from class.<\/span><\/p>\n

EXAMS:<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
There will be a comprehensive final at the end of the course.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Treat others with respect. <\/span><\/li>\n
  2. No speaking while someone else is talking.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Be on time to class.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Have your class materials with you for each class.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. No food or drink allowed during class.<\/span><\/li>\n
