{"id":301,"date":"2013-09-17T14:59:03","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T18:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/vhs\/english\/jmasser\/?page_id=301"},"modified":"2016-11-28T14:10:19","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T18:10:19","slug":"wham-academic-team","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/vhs\/english\/jmasser\/wham-academic-team\/","title":{"rendered":"WHAM Academic Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WHAM<\/strong> stands for <strong>Warren-Hunterdon Academic Meet<\/strong>, a semi-annual academic competition contested amongst the high schools of Warren and Hunterdon Counties.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Voorhees WHAM<\/strong> team competes at both the Fall and Spring <strong>Warren Hunterdon Academic Meets<\/strong>, and typically hosts the Fall competition here at VHS. \u00a0In the past the team has also attended other academic competitions such as the <strong>Phillipsburg Academic Tournament<\/strong> and the <strong>Clinton Public Quiz Bowl<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What makes a good WHAM member?<\/strong><\/em> Knowledge of any sort.\u00a0 Questions can range from acadmics to sports to pop-culture.\u00a0 You name it, it can make a WHAM question, so don&#8217;t be fooled by the &#8220;Academic&#8221; in the title.\u00a0A well-balanced team needs to cover all bodies of knowledge, so diversity is welcomed!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Meetings: <\/strong><\/em>The WHAM team meets during the school year, every <strong>Thursday\u00a0at 2:30\u00a0in Room 223<\/strong>.\u00a0 The general procedure involves fielding practice questions in a relaxed, fun, informal manner.\u00a0 While attendance is encouraged, it is not mandatory.\u00a0 Many students are extemely busy with clubs, sports and other after-school activities, so it is understood that members may not be able to attend all meetings.\u00a0 Students in any grade are welcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Team Selection:<\/em> <\/strong>If there\u00a0are more interested WHAM participants than team spots for a competition, teams will be chosen based on a combination of performance on a written test, past competition history, and overall participation and performance at WHAM meetings.\u00a0 At most competitions we will field an A and B team.\u00a0 At the Warren-Hunterdon Academic meet we field two teams with a minimum of four members and a maximum of six.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Contact:<\/strong><\/em> If you have any questions, please contact <strong>Mr. Masser<\/strong> at <a href=\"mailto:jmasser@nhvweb.net\">jmasser@nhvweb.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WHAM stands for Warren-Hunterdon Academic Meet, a semi-annual academic competition contested amongst the high schools of Warren and Hunterdon Counties.
