The French language is regarded by many as the most beautiful spoken language in the world.\u00a0 French culture is admired and imitated the world over.\u00a0 We can even observe some of its influences in our everyday lives.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have a lot of fun in French class, but there are a few basic rules that we have to address first.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">On parle fran\u00e7ais ici !!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>This means <b>you need to participate everyday in French!!!<\/b>\u00a0 You can\u2019t learn to play an instrument or play a sport or learn a style of dance without actually doing it, and you can\u2019t learn to speak French if you seldom speak.\u00a0 Volunteer to present, participate in your group, answer questions and perform.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Grading policy<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0 \u00a060% &#8211; <\/b>any graded assignment including quizzes, tests (IPAs), projects, oral\u00a0presentations, essays, etc.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0 20% &#8211; <\/b>nightly homework<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0 20% &#8211; <\/b>quality<b> <\/b>oral classroom participation <b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Make-up work:<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Please do NOT interrupt class to ask me what work you missed if you were absent.\u00a0 You may check the google classroom for our class period and \u201cAspen\u201d our on-line grade book available through the school\u2019s website for any work missed (this will include both classwork and homework assignments). See me at the end of the period for any other work or test make-ups.\u00a0 There are two points during the marking period by which all outstanding work must be made up or you will receive a \u201czero.\u201d \u00a0The first is progress report time at the mid-marking period point and the second is at the end of the marking period.\u00a0 Please refer to your student hand book for further details.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Late work:<\/span><\/b><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/b><u>No credit is given for late homework that has been corrected in class.<\/u>\u00a0 Homework is due at the beginning of the next class period after it is assigned and is usually part of that day\u2019s lesson unless otherwise indicated.\u00a0 Other graded work may be handed in 1 day late for -10%, 2 days late for -20%, 3 or more days late = 0.<\/p>\n<p><b>Cuts:\u00a0 <\/b>You will NOT be allowed to make up any quiz or test administered on a day where you have a cut in French class.\u00a0 You will be assigned a grade of \u201c<b>0<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Substitute Assignments:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>All work assigned on a day of Madame Decker\u2019s absence is due the following day.\u00a0 Assignments will almost always be found in the google classroom.\u00a0 This work <strong>WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE.\u00a0 <\/strong>All students should be working on their assignment during their French class period. No other work may be done during the class period until the French assignment is completed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Plagiarism, cheating, copying:\u00a0 <\/b>As per district policy, no credit is given for work that is plagiarized, copied, or created through cheating.\u00a0 A <strong>zero<\/strong> will be assigned for falling into this category and the student will be referred to the disciplinarian. \u00a0This includes ALL work (homework, tests, quizzes, projects, etc.)\u00a0\u00a0 Using a translator is cheating!!!!\u00a0 Absolutely <u>NO TRANSLATORS<\/u> electronic or otherwise may be used!\u00a0 You may NOT use <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">AI (artificial intelligence<\/span> such as ChatGPT or any other AI) to complete assignments.\u00a0 Students will be given a list of acceptable resources and told when they will be able to be used.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Required items:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The usual:\u00a0 French textbook, notebook, folder or binder, pen or pencil<\/li>\n<li>Fully charged Chromebook<\/li>\n<li>Headset or earbuds (for individual listening comprehension activities) Please make sure that they work with your Chromebook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Behavioral Expectations<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.<\/li>\n<li>Bring all necessary materials to class.<\/li>\n<li>Listen attentively when others are speaking.\u00a0 Participate during class by first raising your hand and waiting to be recognized.<\/li>\n<li>Respect other people and property.<\/li>\n<li>Do the required assignments.<\/li>\n<li>Use all of your in-class time productively.<\/li>\n<li>Reserve personal grooming for appropriate places.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Cell Phones<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Everyday students will be expected to place their cell phones in the numbered cell phone holder near the door.\u00a0 Each student will be assigned a numbered slot and place their silenced cell phone at the beginning of the period and may retrieve it during the last 5 minutes of class each day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Tardiness<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>You must arrive on time for class EVERYDAY.\u00a0 You are expected to come with a pass from a teacher or a guidance counselor anytime you are late.\u00a0 Failure to come without a pass will result in an unexcused tardy.\u00a0 Three tardies will result in a 30-minute teacher detention to be served at Mme Decker\u2019s convenience or a referral to the office.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Gum, eating, drinking, etc.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">No gum period!\u00a0 <\/span>French is difficult enough to pronounce without the added nuisance of gum.\u00a0 Please do not eat in class.\u00a0 Water is the only permissible drink during class.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Extra Credit<\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0No extra credit assignments are given.\u00a0 Do the work assigned, participate daily, and you will not need extra credit.\u00a0 There are occasional extra credit questions of quizzes or tests.\u00a0 Additionally, students can sometimes earn extra credit points during a review session before a quiz or test.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Contact Info:<\/span><\/b><b>\u00a0 <\/b>My voice mail at school is: 908-713-4199 ext. 4495<\/p>\n<p>My e-mail address is <a href=\"mailto:kdecker@nhvweb.net\">kdecker@nhvweb.net<\/a> \u00a0.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Classes for 2025-26 French 1 Advanced French 2 Advanced French 3 Honors French 4 Honors Course Expectations\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 French\u00a0 2025-26\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 Bienvenue!
