{"id":301,"date":"2012-10-05T10:46:54","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T14:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/studentactivities\/?page_id=301"},"modified":"2014-09-04T13:53:35","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T17:53:35","slug":"5-sex-on-the-rocks","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/studentactivities\/teen-pep\/workshops\/5-sex-on-the-rocks\/","title":{"rendered":"#5: Sex on the Rocks: Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Sexual Decision-Making Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Sexual Decision-Making Workshop<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><strong>Workshop Objectives <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After participating in this workshop, students will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Describe <\/strong>how the use of alcohol and other drugs affects sexual decision-making<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify <\/strong>five potential consequences of mixing alcohol and sex<\/li>\n<li><strong>Name <\/strong>the five questions to ask when making a decision<\/li>\n<li><strong>Demonstrate <\/strong>the three refusal skills to resist peer pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><strong>Take Home Messages <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The goal of this workshop is to help students understand that the use of alcohol and other drugs* significantly impairs one\u2018s ability to make good decisions in sexual situations.<\/p>\n<p>While conducting this workshop, peer educators should keep in mind the major messages for participants to <em>take home: <\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Being under the influence of alcohol and other drugs increases the likelihood of engaging in behaviors that put a person at risk for STIs, unintended pregnancy, and HIV infection.<\/li>\n<li>Having sex is a decision that is best made sober. When sober, a person is more likely to choose abstinence or use protection correctly and consistently if sexually active.<\/li>\n<li>It is important to set boundaries ahead of time, before getting into a potentially risky situation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Note: <\/strong>Throughout this workshop, \u2015other drugs can refer to crystal meth, cocaine, inhalants, prescription drugs, ecstasy, and other substances that impair sexual decision-making.
