In total, 108 teachers from across the country and U.S. territories will be honored.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The educators are shaping America&#8217;s success through their passion for math and science, President Barack Obama said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Their leadership and commitment empower our children to think critically and creatively about science, technology, engineering, and math,&#8221; Obama said. &#8220;The work these teachers are doing in our classrooms today will help ensure that America stays on the cutting edge tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/education\/2015\/07\/2_nj_teachers_to_be_honored_by_white_house.html#incart_river\" target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"nofollow\" >here<\/a> for the full article<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Kathleen Carter<\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>The Presidential Award represents the grandest bridge that I have crossed in my teaching career. I am humbled and exhilarated by the magnificence of this bridge that so many have helped to build. This bridge has been built by my inspirational students; by the brilliant educators who influence me; and by my family that supports my passion for teaching. She has been a member of the Math department\u00a0at North Hunterdon High School since September 2006 where she has taught Algebra I, Algebra II &amp; Trigonometry, Precalculus II, Discrete Mathematics, and Financial Literacy. Previously, she taught at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, MO; Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, MO; and in the Interactive Mathematics Program at Brookline High School in Brookline, MA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen&#8217;s innovative lessons engage students in the mathematical habits of mind and challenge them to persevere in coming up with a solution. Her theme of &#8220;building bridges&#8221; encourages students to seek connections within the content, build relationships with their peers, and realize the fascinating applications of mathematics in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen has been a leader in mathematics education in her\u00a0district and state. She\u00a0has contributed to the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) through curriculum\u00a0revision and by leading professional development on the CCSS Mathematical Practice Standards. She shares her favorite lessons at annual mathematics conferences in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen has a B.A. in psychology\/biology from Drew University,\u00a0a M.Ed. in secondary education from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a M.Ed. in mathematics from DeSales University.
