{"id":31118,"date":"2024-04-22T13:06:32","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T17:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/home\/?p=31118"},"modified":"2024-04-22T13:06:35","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T17:06:35","slug":"nj-student-learning-assessments-may-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/home\/nj-student-learning-assessments-may-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"NJ Student Learning Assessments, May 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District will administer the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) to the students meeting the criteria in the points below.\u00a0 The NJSLA measures student progress toward <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/education\/standards\/\" target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"nofollow\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Jersey Student Learning Standards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in language arts, mathematics, and science<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. State standards are goals for what we want our students to know and the skills they should acquire at each grade level. The NJSLA provides valuable information that we use at NHHS to drive instruction and inform the development of curriculum.\u00a0 Additionally, the results from the NJSLA are used to rank and compare NHHS to other schools in the county and state. We are asking that you encourage your child to do their best on the NJSLA. Students do not need to study for the NJSLA and they should not stress about it, but during the test we are encouraging all students to put in the effort and engagement necessary to show their true ability and in-turn provide an authentic measure of student learning at NHHS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students being tested in the NJSLA are listed below:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">English\/Language Arts &#8211; all students in <\/span><b>grade 9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (except for students who will be taking the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Math &#8211; all students in <\/span><b>grade 9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who are enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II and students taking Algebra 1 for the first time (except for students who will be taking the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Science &#8211; all students in <\/span><b>grade 11<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (except for students who will be taking the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public school districts are mandated by state law (N.J.S.A. 18A:7C-1) to administer this statewide assessment. It is the expectation of the New Jersey Department of Education and the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District that all students complete all NJSLA assessments that they are assigned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Testing Dates and Schedule:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NJSLA will be administered in our district on <\/span><b>May 20 and 21 (English\/Language Arts units) and May 22 and 23 (mathematics and science units)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The assessments measure student achievement in the areas of language arts literacy, mathematics, and science. <\/span><b>Please note that students must complete all units of each NJSLA in order to receive a reported score.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>We will be running two bus runs on testing days.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 All students taking the assessment need to come to school at the regular time. Students not taking the assessment will get on their bus 2 \u00bd hours later than their regular pick-up time (please note that academy students who live out of district will not have two bus runs and will come in at the normal time). More information for the NJSLA can be found at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nj.mypearsonsupport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"nofollow\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Jersey Assessments Resource Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Testing-Day Requirements:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On assessment days, the following is required of all students taking the test:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must bring their <\/span><b>fully-charged Chromebook<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>charger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to school.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must bring <\/span><b>wired<\/b> <b>earbuds or headphones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the audio portions of the tests (this is only for the ELA units).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every student must present his or her <\/span><b>school ID card or driver\u2019s license<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> each day of testing to verify identity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) directives prohibit backpacks, handbags, cell phones, any other electronic devices, and food and water bottles from being in the testing areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Please remind your child to leave these items in his or her locker during testing.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are permitted to bring a book to read after they have completed their assessment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Attendance will be taken in each testing room daily, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so students must report directly to their designated classroom each morning at 7:45 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who miss any section due to illness will be advised about the make-up testing date and location for the test that was missed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Students will be advised of their testing location by email prior to testing.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The testing schedule that has been created allows our students to test in classrooms rather than in large groups, which ensures optimal academic conditions for all students who are taking these assessments while still being able to maintain a normal academic schedule for the remainder of the day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, please be reminded that all students must present a <\/span><b>valid form of ID<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and that <\/span><b>NJDOE directives prohibit backpacks, handbags, cell phones, any other prohibited electronic devices, food, and water bottles from being in the testing areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can learn more about NJSLA <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/education\/assessment\/resources\/district\/blueprtsguide\/\" target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"nofollow\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Jersey Department of Education website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone with questions can contact Tim Flynn, Assistant Principal, at (908) 713-4199 x6351 or by email at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:tflynn@nhvweb.net\" target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"nofollow\" ><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tflynn@nhvweb.net<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
