\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Hunterdon High School\u2019s\nTheater Organization will perform Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee\u2019s classic, Inherit the Wind<\/em>, on November 1 and 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiration for the play came from the\nfamous 1925 Scopes Trial, in which science teacher John Scopes was prosecuted\nfor teaching evolution in a Tennessee high school. Tennessee had recently passed\nthe Butler Act, which rendered it illegal to teach evolution in any public\nschool in the state. The trial attracted a bevy of spectators to the town, with\nthree-time Presidential hopeful William Jennings Bryan serving as prosecuting\nattorney, and renowned lawyer Clarence Darrow for the defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two legal giants are portrayed in\nNHTO\u2019s production by senior Jack Murray in the role of defense lawyer Henry\nDrummond, who personifies Darrow, and senior George Kapetanakis as the beloved\nMatthew Harrison Brady, who characterizes Bryan. Senior Andrew Tota portrays\nthe accused teacher, Bertram Cates, supported by his colleague and friend,\nRachel Brown (junior Taylor Ussia), who happens to be the daughter of the local\nminister, Reverend Jeremiah Brown (sophomore Joseph McDevitt). A cynical,\nwise-cracking reporter, E.K. Hornbeck (senior Juliana Gonzalez-Rivas) arrives\nto cover the trial for the Baltimore\nHerald<\/em>, while the Judge (junior Lexie Miller), District Attorney Davenport\n(junior Lizzie Caso), and bailiff Mr. Meeker (sophomore Quinn Cowell) manage\nthe courtroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other students in the cast are seniors\nMeredith Harmon and Paeton Horsch, juniors Emily Miljkovic and Morgen Fisher,\nsophomores Grace Gartlgruber, Emily Koscinski, Raymond Setaro, Annie Meyer,\nAlicia Chapman, Amelia Milza, and Shayne Piro, and freshmen Joshua Zalot,\nAnneliese Johnson, Maggie Dean, Makaela Kessie, Andrea Baumgarten, Natalie\nBonilla, Nancy Crannell, Chloe Giordano, Kira Lospinoso, Cassandrea Mitros, and\nVanessa Molini. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The play is produced by English teacher\nRegina Cavo, and directed by English teacher Mary Meo. Teachers Aaron Willsey\nand Ann Semanchik manage sets and technical aspects of the production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performances are on Thursday, November 1\nat 7:00 p.m., a matinee on Saturday, November 3 at 3:00 p.m., and an evening\nperformance on Saturday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m., all in the school theater. Tickets,\nat $8 for students and senior citizens and $10 for general admission, are\navailable at the door. Inherit the Wind<\/em>\nis produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New\nYork. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
