August 27, 2020 – Welcome back, Lions!

Assignments for Mrs. Meo’s classes will be posted on Google Classroom. Reflections for parents, and occasionally, announcements and special notes, will be posted here. We invite you to check back from time to time to see what’s happening in class.

Our first topic is: Where is your story from?

To grammatical purists, we apologize for the preposition at the end of the sentence. It is intended as a colloquialism, to engage students at the outset of our learning together.

Also, the topic is not primarily intended to be about genealogy. Our stories are more than physical. They come from every influence, inspiration, and aspiration. They include heritages of literature, culture, family, society, and nature. We begin the exploration of these heritages with ancient mythology.

Back to the practical side of things: Students will receive in the first week of class two texts: the classic Edith Hamilton’s Mythology and the amazing contemporary I Am Malala. For August and September, students are expected to bring the Mythology text to class, and to have it on hand while virtual learning. We will get to Malala later, but I wanted to distribute books that would carry us through several weeks of learning. Students should keep the Malala text in a safe place at home until needed. I expect to be collecting both books and exchanging them for our next unit’s materials in late October or November.

All the best for a fabulous school year!
