\"\"<\/a>Congratulations to the Lady Lion softball team for winning the \u200b NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 Softball Sectional Championship\u200bagainst Bridgewater-Raritan HS 8-0. It is the first sectional title for the Lions since 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

North Hunterdon sent 11 batters to the plate in the six-run bottom of the third inning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Second baseman Maria Newsome led off the big frame with a double. Senior center fielder Meghan Graham knocked her in with a single to make it 1-0. Following a sacrifice bunt by Melissa Meiners, shortstop Eliza Filus had an infield single. Following an error off a ball hit by Swan, sophomore Megan Hanily had a two-run single to extend the lead to three runs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lions weren’t done yet in the frame as junior first baseman Jess Nolan walked. Left fielder Jensen Macaulay then walked with the bases loaded to put the Lions ahead 4-0. A run would come in on an error off a ball hit by Kira Thomas and another would cross home plate on a balk to finish off the big frame.<\/span><\/p>\n

Swan struck out eight, walked none and allowed only two hits, with both coming in the first three innings. She retired the final 13 batters she faced in the game. \u200bSwan\u200b \u200balso reached base three times, including an RBI double in the fourth inning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lions will play the North 1, Group 4 champion Morris Knolls in the group semifinal at 4 p.m. Thursday at Caldwell University.<\/span><\/p>\n
