{"id":761,"date":"2015-06-03T17:02:10","date_gmt":"2015-06-03T17:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/?page_id=761"},"modified":"2022-01-05T14:17:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-05T14:17:17","slug":"academic-integrity","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/academic-integrity\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Integrity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"docs-internal-guid-41eea5a5-ba5d-d60e-e568-afe406cbd93f\" dir=\"ltr\">North Hunterdon High School<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Defining Academic Integrity<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">North Hunterdon High School values intellectual integrity and the highest standards of academic conduct. \u00a0We further believe that all students, parents\/guardians, staff, and administration will assist our school community in developing, maintaining, and acting within these standards.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The principles of academic integrity require that all members of the school community:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">properly acknowledge and cite all use of the ideas, results, or words of others.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">properly acknowledge all contributors to a given piece of work.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">ensure that all work submitted as their own in a course or academic activity is produced without the aid of impermissible materials or impermissible collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">obtain all data or results by ethical means and report them accurately without suppressing any results inconsistent with their interpretation or conclusions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">treat all members of the school community in an ethical manner, respecting their integrity and right to pursue their educational goals without interference. \u00a0This requires that members of the school community neither facilitates academic dishonesty by others nor obstruct their academic progress.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Adherence to these principles is necessary in order to ensure that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">everyone is given proper credit for his or her ideas, words, results, and other scholarly accomplishments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">all student work is fairly evaluated and no student has an inappropriate advantage over others.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">the academic and ethical development of all students is fostered.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">all students and NHHS graduates are \u00a0prepared to be active and engaged citizens of the world who demonstrate trustworthiness, a sense of responsibility, respect for themselves and others, and respect in dealing with those around them.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Academic dishonesty or academic misconduct is any type of cheating that occurs in relation to a formal academic exercise. Any form of academic dishonesty is inconsistent with the goals and values of North Hunterdon High School, \u00a0It includes, but is not limited to:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Plagiarism: The adoption or reproduction of ideas or words or statements of another person without due acknowledgment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Copying word for word from an oral, printed, or electronic source without proper attribution.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Paraphrasing without proper attribution.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Incorporating into one\u2019s work graphs and diagrams, photographs, drawings, and other non-textual material from other sources without proper attribution.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Submitting a document written by someone else but representing it as one\u2019s own<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Supporting plagiarism by providing your work to others, whether you believe it will be copied or not.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Presenting the work of tutors, parents, siblings, or friends as your own.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cheating: Any attempt to give or obtain assistance in a formal academic exercise without due acknowledgment. \u00a0This includes but is not limited to copying, scanning, e-sharing, photographing, and verbal or digital dissemination.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sharing answers or information on exams, quizzes, individual projects, and homework<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Consulting outside sources or notes when expressly directed not to<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Creating cheat sheets<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Copying from another student\u2019s work, wholly or in part, and submitting it as one\u2019s own work, with or without the other student\u2019s knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Using online translators.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Exchanging information with other students orally, in writing, or by signals with the intent of aiding a student\u2019s academic work or altering the validity of an assessment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Any form of collaboration without teacher permission.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Fabrication: The falsification of data, information, or citations in any formal academic exercise.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Citing a source that does not exist.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Making up or falsifying evidence or data or other source materials.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Submitting data which has been altered or contrived in such a way as to be deliberately misleading.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Deception: Providing false information to an instructor concerning a formal academic exercise.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Completing any part of an assignment for someone else.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Falsely taking credit for any work submitted<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Giving a false excuse for missing a deadline or falsely claiming to have submitted work<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Forging a parent\u2019s signature<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sabotage: Acting to prevent others from completing their work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Intentionally destroying student work or impeding a student from completing assignments.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Altering computer files that contain data, reports, or assignments to another student.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Stealing or defacing books or other library, school, or student materials.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">References:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Refer to <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/boardpolicyonline.com\/?b=north_hunterdon_voorhees&amp;s=373277\">BOE Policy 5701<\/a><\/span> for additional information.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Academic dishonesty.
