{"id":460,"date":"2012-10-02T19:57:58","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T19:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/?page_id=460"},"modified":"2025-07-29T13:17:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T13:17:05","slug":"discipline","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/discipline\/","title":{"rendered":"Discipline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">Disciplinary Action (Levels)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Listed below is the \u201cCode of Conduct with the various \u201clevels of disciplinary action\u201d to be used in a disciplinary case.\u00a0 Each circumstance will be considered independently of any other.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A student will move to succeeding steps for a subsequent occurrence of misconduct which requires disciplinary action.\u00a0 Infractions with numbers in brackets may be entered at any level indicated by those numbers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">Code of Conduct:<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/files\/2025\/07\/Code-of-Conduct-Regulation-Feb-2020.pdf\">Click here to view the Board of Education Approved Code of Conduct.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Detention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An individual teacher may assign detention and students will be expected to report to the specific area on the assigned date and time.<\/p>\n<p>Official out-of-school suspension is assigned only through the Administration.<\/p>\n<p>If the student refuses to honor the assigned detention, it will be referred to the Disciplinarian as \u201cinsubordination\u201d. (In assigning detention, the student is allowed at least (1) day\u2019s notice so that any necessary transportation might be arranged).<\/p>\n<p>The student will be directed to the supervised detention room.\u00a0 Any student who intentionally ignores the detention will be dealt with severely and possibly suspended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><strong>RULES FOR AFTER-SCHOOL DETENTION\/EXTENDED DETENTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Report to Room 120.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Detention begins at 2:30 p.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m. Extended Detention begins at 2:30 p.m. and ends at 5:20 p.m. Students must be on time.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be sure to sign in with the person supervising the room.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bring work or appropriate reading material.\u00a0 Sit quietly.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you are out ill on the day assigned you are expected to make up the day on the next scheduled detention day.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Detentions will only be rescheduled with Administrative approval.\u00a0 If an emergency arises you are expected to make up the day on the next scheduled detention day and bring in a note from your parents explaining why you were not able to stay after school.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The cutting of detention\/Extended Detention will result in increased discipline explained below<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cut Detention \u2013 two detentions<\/li>\n<li>Cut one of the above assigned two detentions \u2013 two extended detentions.<\/li>\n<li>Cut extended detention \u2013 two extended detentions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CUT EXTENDED DETENTION \u2013 AUTOMATICALLY GET TWO EXTENDED DETENTIONS <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CUT ONE OF THE ABOVE ASSIGNED TWO EXTENDED DETENTIONS \u2013 IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>IF ASKED TO LEAVE AN ASSIGNED DETENTION\/EXTENDED DETENTION, OR IF REFUSED ADMITTANCE BECAUSE OF LATE ARRIVAL, THE STUDENT WILL BE REFERRED TO THE ADMINISTRATION FOR INCREASED DISCIPLINARY ACTION.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Extended After School Detention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an effort to impress upon students the importance of following school rules, and yet not to penalize them by removal from classes, an Extended Detention program as an intermediate disciplinary step between After-School Detention and Out-of-School Suspension. It will be held each Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. until 5:20 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Students must report to the Supervised Detention Room on time and be prepared to study quietly.<\/p>\n<p>No Rescheduled Detention after 11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In-School Suspension<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">In-school suspension program will be conducted Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. The program has two primary goals\u2014to encourage students to improve their self-control and keep up with their academic assignments.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Students will be placed in in-school suspension if they meet the criteria for out-of-school suspension.\u00a0\u00a0 The nature and number of violations of school rules will be a consideration in placement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><strong>Out-Of-School Suspension<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most out-of-school suspensions are an indication that the school is seeking parental involvement, responsibility and cooperation in effecting change in that student\u2019s behavior patterns.<\/p>\n<p>When an out-of-school suspension is referred to as a \u201cvacation\u201d for a student, it is usually a result of that student\u2019s parent\/guardian\u2019s lack of interaction with that student during the suspension period.<\/p>\n<p>It is the responsibility of the student\u2019s parents to notify the student\u2019s guidance counselor with a request for class assignments. These assignments should be completed during the out-of-school suspension period.\u00a0 Parents who follow this prescribed procedure will make this disciplinary measure a learning experience.<\/p>\n<p>Students placed on out-of-school suspension are prohibited from the school grounds for any reason.
