{"id":150,"date":"2012-07-16T16:57:07","date_gmt":"2012-07-16T16:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs-teacherhandbook\/?page_id=150"},"modified":"2018-07-11T18:32:28","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T18:32:28","slug":"evacuation-procedures","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/nhhs\/athletics\/parentstudenthandbook\/evacuation-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Evacuation\/Fire Drill Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\">The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) adopted the model code of the International Code Council, \u201cThe 2006 International Fire Code\u201d in September 2009. <em>See<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">N.J.A.C. 5:70-3.1 (referencing the adoption of the 2006 International Fire Code). This regulation requires districts to complete two fire drills within ten days of the opening of schools. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Specifically, under DCA regulation, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">school buildings and structures used for educational purposes where serving six or more students in any or all the grades from kindergarten through grade twelve are considered part of \u2018Use Group E\u2019.\u201d <em>See<\/em> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">N.J.A.C.<\/span> 5:70-1.5. Under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.iccsafe.org\/states\/06NewJerseyFire\/Fire_Code\/PDFs\/Chapter%204_Emergency%20Planning%20and%20Preparedness.pdf\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Section 408.3.1 of the 2006 International Fire Code<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: medium\">, \u201cUse Group E must conduct two drills monthly and must conduct the first two emergency evacuation drills of each school year within ten (10) days of the beginning of classes.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Violations for failure to conduct drills went into effect as of February 1, 2009.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Districts are advised to work with their local fire officials to facilitate the expedition of these drills. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Also required <\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">1 Fire and 1 Security Drill Monthly Beginning November 1<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/education\/schools\/security\/drill\/Guide.pdf\">School Security Drill Guide:\u00a0N.J.S.18A:41-1 Fire, school security drills\u00a0pursuant to C.App.A:9-86 <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) adopted the model code of the International Code Council, \u201cThe 2006 International Fire Code\u201d in September 2009.
