{"id":8732,"date":"2022-10-18T08:49:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T12:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/?p=8732"},"modified":"2023-09-20T12:38:44","modified_gmt":"2023-09-20T16:38:44","slug":"groundbreaking-ceremony-held-for-new-polytech-facility-on-nhhs-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/index.php\/2022\/10\/groundbreaking-ceremony-held-for-new-polytech-facility-on-nhhs-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Polytech Facility on NHHS Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr. Todd Bonsall, Superintendent of the Hunterdon County Vocational School District, led a groundbreaking ceremony on October 17, 2022 for the district&#8217;s new Polytech building that will be constructed on the campus of North Hunterdon High School, in what is now the lower level student parking lot by Regional Road. Administrators and Board of Education members from the HCVSD and North Hunterdon-Voorhees districts, the County Commissioners, NJ Assemblyman John DiMaio, Clinton Township Mayor Brian Mullay, architect Kevin Settembrino, and Polytech staff members were all present to celebrate this milestone for vocational education in Hunterdon County.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The joint partnership between HCVSD and the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District will increase the vocational educational offerings to students. The full-time career programs that will be offered in HCVSD\u2019s new building are HVAC\/Plumbing Technology; Culinary Arts and Hospitality; Advanced Manufacturing &amp; Aeronautical Sciences; Welding Technology; Diesel Technology; and Electrical Technology program. This new building on the North Hunterdon Campus will also have an expanded state-of-the-art space for HCVSD\u2019s Culinary program, which will relocate from the district\u2019s Bartles Campus. Students will take their vocational courses in the new Polytech building and then their regular courses at North Hunterdon High School. Lanza stated, \u201cToday\u2019s groundbreaking ceremony is an historic day for Hunterdon County and our Vocational School District, also known as Polytech.\u00a0 We are helping to lay the foundation for Hunterdon County\u2019s long-term economic vitality and sustainability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Commissioner Board\u2019s Deputy Director Zach Rich, the Board\u2019s liaison to Polytech, said, \u201cAs someone who works every day in the building construction industry, I see firsthand the shortages that our county, state, and nation face in skilled labor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than simply talk about the challenges, today, we are making a targeted investment in career and technical education (CTE) that will pay dividends for years to come.\u00a0 We are saying to parents, guardians, and young people across Hunterdon County that you have a future here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polytech Superintendent Dr. Todd Bonsall added, \u201cThis is a long awaited day for Hunterdon County! Today we are breaking ground on the HCVSD-North Campus located on the North Hunterdon High School campus in the general area of the lower student parking lot adjacent to Regional Road.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This project represents a unique partnership with the North Hunterdon-Voorhees High School District. One of the first of its kind in New Jersey. In this collaborative partnership with the North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District, the students will become full-time students of the Hunterdon County Vocational School District where they will take their CTE coursework in our new facility and walk across the campus to take their academic coursework at North Hunterdon High School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will be eligible to attend these programs of study beginning in the 9th grade. A full time CTE program of study will allow the students to increase their time in their CTE program of choice by more than double than that of a typical 2-year shared-time program. In addition, the students will have opportunities to earn additional industry certifications, as well as earn college credits while in high school and\/or get a jumpstart on an DOL endorsed Apprenticeship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The $25 million cost of constructing the new career and technical facility will be offset with 75% funding from the State of New Jersey and the County\u2019s 25% match is fully funded with no debt issued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new Polytech facility, on property located next to the North Hunterdon Regional High School, will boast 6 programs of study and will offer expanded career and technical training in high skill, high wage and high demand careers, including Culinary arts &amp; Hospitality; Welding Technology; Advanced Manufacturing &amp; Aeronautical Sciences; Electrical Technology; HVAC\/Plumbing Technology, and Diesel Technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new facility will enable the Polytech Board to save the cost of the lease agreement for the facility presently in use at Bartles Corner Road.\u00a0 It will also provide full education instructional opportunities for Career and Technical students, ending the practice of time consuming, mid-day bus rides between various school buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining the Commissioners and Superintendent at the ground breaking ceremony were Assemblyman John DiMaio, County Sheriff Fred Brown Polytech Board President, Elizabeth Martin, NHV Board President Jessica Viotto, NHV Superintendent, Jeff Bender, Executive County Superintendent Juan Torres, Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce President, Chris Phelan, Kevin Settembrino of Settembrino Architects and EPIC Construction Manager Joel Lizotte.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Todd Bonsall, Superintendent of the Hunterdon County Vocational School District, led a groundbreaking ceremony on October 17, 2022 for the district&#8217;s new Polytech building that will be constructed on the campus of North Hunterdon High School, in what is now the lower level student parking lot by Regional Road.
