{"id":2716,"date":"2014-03-11T12:07:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-11T16:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/?p=2716"},"modified":"2014-03-17T12:12:48","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T16:12:48","slug":"suicide-awareness-program-3-13-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/index.php\/2014\/03\/suicide-awareness-program-3-13-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Suicide Awareness Program 3-13-14"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Community Comes Together to Raise Awareness of Youth Suicide and Prevention<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>Suicide rates have increased more than 300% since the\u00a01950s, and suicide is the third-leading cause of death in individuals 15-24 years of age.\u00a0Statistics such as these are rallying one local community to raise mental health\u00a0awareness &#8212; and begin an important dialogue among today&#8217;s parents and teens &#8212; by\u00a0hosting<strong>\u00a0&#8220;Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention: Let\u2019s Talk About It&#8221; on\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Thursday, March 13 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Township Middle School\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(CTMS) in Clinton Township, NJ.\u00a0<\/strong>The fact-based, yet personal presentation cosponsored\u00a0by the Dads of ICC introduces Mr. Jim Tkach, who will address mental\u00a0illness and its prevalence; suicide awareness, including how to recognize signs and\u00a0symptoms in at-risk youth; and available resources and support for interested families,\u00a0friends, educators, coaches, and concerned community members.\u00a0<!--more--><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Jim and Sandi Tkach, who tragically lost their son Bo to suicide after a long battle with\u00a0depression and OCD, now head The Bo Tkach Foundation. The non-profit organization,\u00a0named in commemoration of the All-Star Athlete and member of the 2000-2001 ESPN\u00a0Academic High School Football All-American team, has since its inception remained\u00a0dedicated to providing mental health awareness and funding for youth athletic\u00a0programs, scholarships and otherwise inaccessible mental health screening and\u00a0treatment. In keeping with the Foundation motto which states, Under Every Helmet\u00a0and Hat is a Child Who Needs Us, Jim and Sandi have made it their life-long mission\u00a0to raise awareness of mental health issues and inspire community-based suicide\u00a0prevention solutions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Admission to the March 13th program is free of charge and recommended for adults\u00a0and middle school students or older.\u00a0Please join us.
