{"id":1737,"date":"2012-03-22T14:09:33","date_gmt":"2012-03-22T18:09:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/?p=1737"},"modified":"2012-03-22T14:09:33","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T18:09:33","slug":"vhs-wrestlers-raise-6100-for-special-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/index.php\/2012\/03\/vhs-wrestlers-raise-6100-for-special-olympics\/","title":{"rendered":"VHS Wrestlers Raise $6,100 for Special Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a second year in a row, the Voorhees High School Wrestling Team sponsored \u201cPinning 4 a Purpose\u201d, which gives wrestlers the opportunity to give back to a charitable organization in the local community.\u00a0 This year, the wrestlers raised $6,100 for the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County by pinning their opponents throughout the season. In the two years of this fundraising program, the Voorhees Wrestling Team has donated $10,700 to the Special Olympics.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Through \u201cPinning 4 a Purpose\u201d, wrestlers obtain pledges for each pin they achieve throughout the season.\u00a0 Pledges can come from private businesses, families, friends, fans, etc.\u00a0 Every time a pin or \u201cfall\u201d is recorded during the season, the pledge that each wrestler has solicited will be donated to the organization the team chooses to support.\u00a0 At the end of the season, the total pledge count, multiplied by the number of pins, will be donated in its entirety to the organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the end-of-season wrestling banquet on Monday, March 19, head wrestling coach, Eric Hall, announced the team had raised a total of $6,100 for the Special Olympics.\u00a0 A check was presented to Special Olympics Director Joyce Kirchin and two Special Olympic athletes.\u00a0 The donation will go to fund the purchase of equipment for this year\u2019s Special Olympics event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so extremely proud of our team, program and entire organization for their efforts.\u00a0 We are honored to be associated with the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County and we hope the donation will benefit those athletes who work just as hard and have goals that are just as important as we do,\u201d said Hall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For a second year in a row, the Voorhees High School Wrestling Team sponsored \u201cPinning 4 a Purpose\u201d, which gives wrestlers the opportunity to give back to a charitable organization in the local community.\u00a0 This year, the wrestlers raised $6,100 for the Special Olympics of Hunterdon County by pinning their opponents throughout the season.
