{"id":1466,"date":"2011-11-17T15:05:44","date_gmt":"2011-11-17T20:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/?p=1466"},"modified":"2011-11-17T15:09:20","modified_gmt":"2011-11-17T20:09:20","slug":"high-schools-hosting-rachels-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/index.php\/2011\/11\/high-schools-hosting-rachels-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"High Schools Hosting Rachel&#8217;s Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rachel&#8217;s Challenge will be presented to all students and staff members at Voorhees High School on November 29 and at North Hunterdon on December 1.\u00a0 Rachel\u2019s Challenge was created in memory of Rachel Scott, the first person killed in the Columbine High School shootings on April 20, 1999.\u00a0 Rachel\u2019s acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for this life-changing school program.\u00a0 She wrote in her diary, <em>\u201cI have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain reaction of the same.\u201d\u00a0 <!--more--><\/em><\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0the morning of each school&#8217;s respective\u00a0day for Rachel&#8217;s Challenge, all students and staff members will attend a one-hour presentation (two assemblies will be held\u00a0to accommodate everyone) that includes powerful audio\/video footage of Rachel&#8217;s life and the Columbine tragedy, which is designed to motivate students to effect positive change in the way they treat others.\u00a0 After the morning presentation, 100 students and fifteen staff members at each high school will be selected to attend a 90-minute training session.\u00a0 The morning presentation creates the \u201cwant to\u201d or desire for positive change.
