{"id":2770,"date":"2020-11-10T18:48:20","date_gmt":"2020-11-10T18:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/guidance\/?page_id=2770"},"modified":"2026-09-30T17:13:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T17:13:23","slug":"gifted-and-talented-programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nhvweb.net\/counseling\/gifted-and-talented-programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Gifted and Talented Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to state administrative code (N.J.A.C.6:8-4.5(a)4i), \u201cThe district shall make provisions for identifying students with gifted and talented abilities and for providing them with an educational program and services.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District defines \u201cGifted and Talented\u201d students as those students who are capable of high academic performance and who require differentiated programs and\/or facilities beyond those normally provided in order to fully develop their gifts and talents, lead more satisfying lives, and enhance the quality of life in their communities.\u00a0 The NHVRHSD offers a range of programs to meet the needs of these students. Please click on the links below to learn more about each program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gifted and Talented Programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1TV3-PL_92FOce1aBbK5Fn72eYotImcQ24cXgNIfpJ-E\/edit?usp=sharing\">Honors Classes: Grades 9-12<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1q721v6I6PgHmir-eZFqL80i73L60TnQnLkFX0VCR66s\/edit?usp=sharing\">Advanced Placement Classes: Grades 9-12<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1oPF-Jm1ijrwYEn55u_CdenafrK5cISRv4KJIXuplw2c\/edit?usp=sharing\">Concurrent Enrollment Classes:\u00a0 Grades 11-12<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1JNDZSwY_-dI45BFrtursVIOAShL1Nn7V0ojixg08yjg\/edit?usp=sharing\">Academic Clubs:\u00a0 Grades 9-12<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Policies and procedures used to identify students as gifted and talented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teachers make course recommendations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>School counselors and administrators review grades and standardized test scores to determine which students should be part of the gifted and talented program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Criteria used for consideration for eligibility for the gifted and talented services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Course grades (ongoing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Standardized test scores (ongoing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teacher recommendations (January)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successful completion of prerequisite courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District Policy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straussesmay.com\/seportal\/Public\/DistrictPolicy.aspx?policyid=2464&amp;id=48993eee13724b16bbd578d81424ba44\">District Policy 2464\u00a0<\/a>&#8211; Gifted and Talented Students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To file a complaint for noncompliance, please submit your complaint in writing to the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District.
