CONCERT BAND
Grading Policies
Concert band meets daily for 40 minutes.
You will need your instrument everyday starting August 29, 2011.
GRADES:
Concert Band grades will be determined based on the following grading areas:
1.
CLASS PARTICIPATION AND REHEARSAL
TECHNIQUE:
GRADES PER MARKING PERIOD:
4-5
You will receive a grade
in this area typically once every two weeks.
The grade will be based on your participation in rehearsal.
Your grade can be affected by the following:
- no instrument for rehearsal
- no music
- gum, drink, or food during rehearsal (THESE ARE NOT ALLOWED)
- late to rehearsal
- incorrectly storing music, instrument, and/or equipment
- no pencil

TESTING:
GRADES PER MARKING PERIOD:
2-4
Testing may include
written tests, sectional performance testing, or individual
performance testing.

PERFORMANCE PARTICIPATION:
GRADES PER MARKING PERIOD:
0-4
Concert Band is a
performance class. Attendance at
a concert in which the band
performs is mandatory. The only
legitimate excuses are illness or a death in the family.
Absences of this nature must be excused with a note from a parent
addressed and delivered to the instructor personally, and preferably prior to
the concert. Unexcused absences are
not tolerated.
You will receive two grades for each performance.
The following grades can be received for your performance participation
grading area:
- attended
concert 100% (A)
- failed to attend concert 0% (F)
These are the tentative dates for performances this year, please discuss them
with your parents and get them in your calendars ASAP:
Winter
Concert – December 14, 2011
Mid-Winter
Concert – February 29 or March 2, 2012 (TBA)
Spring Concert – May 9, 2012
Califon Memorial Day Celebration – May 28, 2012 (TBA)
Graduation – June 8, 2012
Please note that there may be additional performances.
We would never schedule a concert without trying to give at least a month
notice.
Concert attire will be the same as last year: black tuxedo for guys and a floor
length black dress for girls. We
will discuss this more when uniform order forms are distributed in the next two
weeks.
4. SECTIONALS:
GRADES PER MARKING PERIOD: 2-4
Sectionals will be from
time to time during the marking period.
Sectionals will be run during the band period.
You will be graded on the amount of time that your section is working
during this rehearsal period and/or what you get accomplished.
