The Voorhees Art Department is holding a calendar sale to raise funds to purchase bricks for a Memorial Walkway within the VHS Sculpture Garden.  Here is information on the garden and how you can purchase a calendar containing student artwork:

The Voorhees Sculpture Garden Project began as a partnership between since retired art-teacher Eileen Carmella, Voorhees’ custodial supervisor, Bruce Wood, and a few former students, in particular, Andrew Curtis, a 2011 Voorhees Graduate.  Andrew’s design will be used as the primary plans for the Sculpture Garden.

The original goal of the VHS Sculpture Garden was to create a “zen garden” type space to be used by students and staff for classes, contemplation, and art work display.  This year Voorhees suffered three tragic losses (a former staff member, a current staff member, and a student), adding to the focus of the garden.  As Voorhees High School is a close knit community, the Sculpture Garden will now also include a Memorial Walkway to remember those that passed away.

Plans for the sculpture garden are being altered in order to add the brick Memorial Walkway, placards for trees and plants dedicated to individuals, and seating throughout the garden.  These additions will compliment the art pieces that are already completed for the garden (2 large murals, and large and small scale ceramics).

In addition to the art department, other departments will be included in the garden’s planning. A committee has met in order to get the plans off the ground.

To raise funds in order to purchase the bricks for the Memorial Walkway, the art department is holding a Calendar Sale.  The full-color calendar includes 18 months and is filled with the art work of Voorhees High School students. The calendars are available for a $20 donation (checks payable to VHS Sculpture Garden) sent to MaryJo Rosania, Art Department Supervisor, Voorhees High School, 256 County Road 513, Glen Gardner, NJ 08826.  Click here for order form.
