Grading Policy:

Grades are determined by the use of a cumulative point system (points accumulated divided by points offered).  Points are then converted to a letter grade as described in your handbook.

Students' grades can be monitored online through the following website:

https://logic.nhvweb.net/homelogicxe

Academic Integrity:

The dictionary defines plagiarism as:

1. stealing somebody's work or idea: the process of copying another person's idea or written work and claiming it as original

2. something plagiarized: a piece of written work or an idea that somebody has copied and claimed as his or her own

Plagiarism includes a) copying the work of another author, b) copying verbatim a passage of more than three words and failing to use both quotation marks and a footnote, and c) using ideas not part of one’s own knowledge and failing to acknowledge this usage in a footnote.

A grade of zero will be earned for any assignment, test, or quiz which involves  plagiarism.

Any talking during a test or quiz will also result in a zero

Rules:

  1. Respect yourself and others

  2. Bring all materials to class on time

  3. Raise your hand when you wish to speak

  4. Use appropriate language

  5. Observe VHS rules

Attendance:

Students must be fully seated in their assigned seats when the bell rings to mark the start of class, working on the day’s posted warm up or other work assigned.

Students arriving as the bell is ringing or after the bell without an acceptable signed note are marked tardy.

  • Three tardies result in a detention and a class absence.

  • Absences due to being late for class can easily accumulate and cause a loss of credit for the course, so please be vigilant.

Students that cut class will earn a zero for any missed assignments, activities, quizzes, or tests completed on that day without the ability to make-up the work (no exceptions)

All visits to Guidance and other student supports are given a pass; please submit this pass before leaving the classroom or skipping class to avoid any confusion.

Absences:

It is the student’s responsibility to check with their teacher and/or classmates for missed homework, quizzes, tests, or other assignments.

  • If a student is present when work is assigned but absent when the assignment is due, the work must be turned in the day the student returns to class.  Please read the VHS Student Handbook for details

  • If a student is absent for a quiz, it will be taken after school the day the student returns to class, unless other arrangements have been made between student & teacher.

  •  Makeup tests are taken after school within a week (5 days), or a grade of zero will be earned.  It is the student’s responsibility to follow through with missed grades.

All Make-up work will be done between 2:30 -3:10 pm (no exceptions)

Homework :

No individual extra credit will be offered; it is in the best interest of  students who desire to be successful that they complete all homework assignments according to directions and the work is handed in at the beginning of class on the specified due date.

Assignments will be posted on my website and announced in class.

Students must follow directions to receive maximum credit.

  • All work submitted must typed

  • written work must be completed in blue or black ink and written legibly (if I cannot read what is written it will be considered incorrect).

  • Work submitted without a name will lose 10% of the grade earned.

  • All work that is handed in will have the appropriate heading:

    • Name

    • Class & Mods

    • Title of Assignment

    • Due date

Assignments not following any of these conventions will be returned and considered one day late.

Please Note

  • Assignments are handed in to the teacher at the beginning of class on the due date.

  • Assignments handed in on the following day (one day late) will earn a maximum of half credit.

  • No credit will be earned for assignments handed in more than one day late

Assessments:

  • Tests will be announced a minimum of three days in advance but quizzes may be unannounced.

  • Chapter test study guides will be posted as a link on the website in the Homework/Calendar page to facilitate studying.

  • Assessments will be graded in a timely fashion based upon teacher discretion and duly submitted to Home Logic

  • All formal assessments and collected homework will be reserved in order to maintain academic integrity.

  • Students may come after class between 2:30 and 3:10pm to review their tests and/ or discuss any concerns

  2. Filler Paper (preferably college rule)

  • Students will follow the format described on the Current Event page.  If a student differs from the required format - points will be deducted.

Restroom Use:

  • Students are encouraged to use the restroom during breaks or between classes, in as much as possible.  With the permission of the teacher, students may leave class with the hall pass to use the restroom.

  • Students who abuse this privilege will be denied future use.

Ending Class:

The teacher dismisses the class.  Students will not pack their bags or get up from their seats at the bell, until dismissed.

Detention:

Teacher issued detentions generally must be served the following day, from 2:30-3:00 PM.  Students who are not present for detention on time will be referred to the Disciplinarian’s office.
