Experience to develop their fullest potential, to foster lifelong learning, and

NHVRHSD
RULES
Respect the ideas and feelings
of others, me, yourself, and school property.
To display RESPECT
is to show you care for or show consideration for a person or thing.
Please be respectful.
Raise your hand when you wish to speak and wait to be called upon.
Use appropriate language.
Only one person speaks at a time.
Observe VHS rules and regulations.
BEGINNING CLASS
Be in the classroom and in your
seat when the bell rings.
Come to class on time and be
prepared with all the required materials.
Listen attentively and
follow the teacher’s directions the first time given.
Work begins when the bell
rings.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Come to class with a notebook
or loose leaf notebook paper.
You must have blue or black
ballpoint pens and a pencil.
You are to bring your
textbook to class when asked to do so.
COMPLETING ASSIGNMENTS
All written assignments are to
follow the English Department Style sheet,
include proper headings
according to English guidelines.
Assignments for which you
have more than one day’s notice are
to be typed. Homework
assigned overnight may be handwritten in blue or back ballpoint pen.
Homework done in pencil will not
be graded.
Assignments not following any of these conventions will be returned and
considered one day late.
EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
Assignments are to be turned in
at the beginning of class.
Assignments handed in after
the beginning of class or on the following day will earn half credit.
No credit will be earned for
assignments handed in more than one day late.
If you run out of ink on
your computer, you must email the assignment to the teacher by the time class
begins. It is then YOUR
responsibility to print out your work at VHS and turn it in to the teacher on
the due date.
Keep in mind that if you
miss class and are in school the day the assignment is due, that it is your
responsibility to either put the assignment in the teacher’s school mailbox
(Main Office) or bring it to the teacher’s office, room 310 before the end of
the day. Assignments not given to
the teacher when the student is present in the building will result in half
credit if turned in the following day.
Major assignments, such as term papers, will be accepted late with points
deducted (25% per
day).
The course moves quickly therefore it is imperative to stay up to date
with all assignments. This includes
both reading and written work.
All assigned readings are to be completed before the start of class in
order for the student to engage in class discussion.
Pop quizzes will be given on readings from time to time.
Be prepared!
MISSED WORK DUE TO
ABSENCES
It is the student’s responsibility
to check with the teacher for missed homework, quizzes, tests, or
other assignments.
Assignments are given in
advance and are posted on the teacher’s website.
If a student is absent when an assignment is given they will have two
days for each day of the absence to make up the work.
This BOE policy also holds for making up quizzes or tests.
See the teacher to make an appointment to make up a quiz or test.
This is YOUR responsibility!
If work is not made up within this time
period, the student will receive a “0”.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
A grade of zero will be earned
for any assignment, test, or quiz which involves cheating or
plagiarism. The dictionary
defines plagiarism as:
a) copying the work of another author,
b) copying verbatim a passage of more than three words and failing to use
both quotation marks
and a footnote, and c) using ideas not part of one’s own knowledge and
failing to acknowledge
this usage in a footnote . Any talking during a test or quiz will
result in a zero.
ENDING CLASS
The class will be dismissed by
the teacher. You are to stay in your
seats until dismissed.
