The technology office has been notified by the county department of education
office that a bill was passed in the NJ state legislature prohibiting the posting of
personally identifiable student information on school web sites, unless a permission
slip designed by the state is signed and returned for that student.
Personally identifiable student information is defined by the state as student
names, student photos, student addresses, student email addresses, student phone
numbers, and locations and times of class trips. These items do not have to be combined
to be considered personally identifiable information.
 |
AT THIS TIME, THE DISTRICT CANNOT POST ANY PERSONALLY
IDENTIFIABLE STUDENT INFORMATION TO OUR WEBSITE WITHOUT A SIGNED CONSENT FORM ON
FILE. |
For your information I am including the wording from NJSA Title 18A:36-35, which is
the statute prohibiting this information posting.
18A:36-35 Disclosure of certain student information on Internet prohibited without
parental consent.
1.The board of education of each school district and the board of trustees of each
charter school that establishes an Internet web site, shall not disclose on that web
site any personally identifiable information about a student without receiving prior
written consent from the student's parent or guardian on a form developed by the
Department of Education. The written consent form shall contain a statement concerning
the potential dangers of personally identifiable information about individual students
on the Internet.
As used in this act, "personally identifiable information" means student names,
student photos, student addresses, student e-mail addresses, student phone numbers,
and locations and times of class trips.
