Budget Headed to NJDOE for Final Decision
The 2010-2011 high school budget is headed to Trenton for a final decision on its tax levy as three municipalities (Tewksbury, Lebanon and Union Townships) failed to certify the agreed upon $406,000 reduction. The County Executive Superintendent delivered defeated budget materials to the NJ Department of Education on June 1. The deadline for the Commissioner of Education to certify a tax levy is June 30, 2010.
Mayors Decide on $406,000 Cut to 2010-2011 Budget
The mayors from the 12 municipalities in the district met with the Board of Education on Tuesday, May 4 to discuss the 2010-2011 budget that was defeated by the voters on April 20. The mayors unanimously in the end decided to decrease the proposed tax levy by $406,000. This means the new tax levy will total $46,254,801, which is a 2.4% increase over the current year's tax levy instead of a 3.3% increase that was presented to voters.
The $406,000 reduction was suggested by the Board of Education and Administration. The amount incorporates items that were brought forward after the budget was developed and because of its defeat. The reduction will come from the following areas: breakage from retirements recently submitted (meaning the difference between the retiree's salary and the salary for a new teacher), one retiree not being replaced, further decrease in capital projects, and decrease in professional services fees associated with these capital projects and the defeated referendum.

AYP Status is determined by scores from the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), which students take in their junior year of high school. This current report is based on the HSPA scores of students who took the exam in March 2008, or in October 2008 or March 2009 if they missed the March exam or did not score proficient on their first or second try. Both high schools met 41 out of 41 indicators to achieve AYP Status. District Implements HomeLogic for Parents The high school district has launched HomeLogic, which is an online program that allows parents to view their child's grades, assignments, and attendance. HomeLogic is linked with TeacherLogic, which our teachers use as their online grade book. The assignments and grades that a teacher enters in TeacherLogic for each class can now be viewed by parents through HomeLogic. Parents can track their child's progress in class much sooner than waiting for the progress report or report card to be mailed home.
