The purpose of the program is to ensure that no secondary school student becomes anonymous. Our goal is to give freshman students the opportunity to meet with other faculty and staff members or advisors to discuss issues important to the 9th grade student—to provide the opportunity for students to become comfortable with an adult “mentor” that they can talk with about topics they have questions about as they transition into high school. The 9th graders are also provided with opportunities to interact with the Peer Leaders who are upperclassmen that can support the underclassmen with issues they might not feel comfortable sharing with their adult advisors.
Teacher Advisors meet with ninth grade students (approximately 5 times a semester) in freshman health classes—as the Freshman Advisory program supports Wellness which is at the core of the Freshman Health Program.
