Dear Parent/Guardian and Student of the Class of 2015:
North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District is greatly concerned with the safety of its student drivers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among young drivers with less than two years experience. Therefore, we have implemented a mandatory program, “Alive at 25,” for all parents and students that anticipate driving on campus during their senior year. The “Alive at 25” program will address the operational, psychological, and physical aspects of driving.
The student program was conducted during the school day in November 2013 for juniors who had health first semester and will be held in April 2014 for juniors who have health second semester. This is a program designed to persuade student drivers to take responsibility for their behavior in driving situations and adopt safe driving practices.
The parent program will be offered on a variety of evenings in May. The program will consist of a 1.5 hour presentation to assist parents in understanding and managing the journey of their teens as they progress from beginners to independent drivers. Information will be provided that offers practical information for parents to use in reducing teen crash risks. The program will be offered at 7p.m. on Thursday, May 1st, Wednesday, May 14th and Monday, May 19th in the North Hunterdon High School Theater. Additional information can be found on the North Hunterdon website. Parents must attend only one of the three nights. If you have attended the program within the last two academic years (2012-2013 or 2013-2014) you do not need to attend again. If you are unable to attend one of the three nights at NHHS, you are able to attend the program at Voorhees High School. The dates for the VHS program are 6/2/14 at 7:00pm then 6/4/14 at 2:45pm and 7:00pm. All are in the VHS auditorium.
In order for students to be eligible for parking permits in the 2014-2015 school year, please be advised that both student and parent must attend their designated Alive at 25 program prior to approval for a parking permit. Information regarding each of our programs will be posted on the NHHS website at http://www.nhvweb.net/nhhs/studentactivities/alive-at-25/ or you may contact Ms. Debbie Oliver at doliver@nhvweb.net or Ms. Rachel Wander at rwander@nhvweb.net.
We look forward to seeing you at our programs.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Bergacs, Ed.D.
