Expectations Check List MissL

In class expectations:

The course is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory course usually taken prior to majoring in the subject.
Please be seated before the bell rings with 3-clip notebook with paper, pen, pencil with eraser, calculator, and thumb drive/flash drive available EVERY day.
When class starts, please be QUIET and doing what the board says.
Follow directions the FIRST TIME given. 40 minutes is too short of a class to repeat anything.
Being silent when the instructor speaks or when students are asking a question or presenting a project. Respect for each other is paramount in any lab setting.
Remain at your bench until the bell rings. Lining up at the door stopped in kindergarten.
Homework Expectations:

Check at home each week’s current lesson plans to download and calendar of current assignments. www.linssuv.com, click on homework, click on the calendar for your class. You know when our tests and assignments are due. It is YOUR responsibility to keep informed concerning ALL assignments and test dates.
All assignments are type written for credit, not handwritten. Save them t your flash drive that you bring to class every day.
If a completed assignment happens to not show on the grade sheet, you will be asked to show me the graded assignment and I will log in the grades.
Keep a 3-ring portfolio of all your work, graded and otherwise. Your portfolio will be your lifeline in this class.
Assignments are due on the due date. You have one week only to turn in each assignment. 10%/day late penalty is assessed. No assignment accepted after one week late.
Get help after school several days in advance of when an assignment is due. There are 3:10 buses 3 days per week. My lab is room 201.

Grade Expectations: grades are checked on Home Logic.
All grades are on a point value. All grades are posted on the website for you and your parents. It is your responsibility to see that all grades are posted correctly.
There are many types of assignments in the class. Every learning style is accommodated.
Missed work or missed class warrants a phone call home and or a meeting with the counselors.
Please read the NHHS handbook on penalties of cheating, p.57
Leaving the room for any reason is unnecessary. Go to your locker, bathroom etc another time. 40 minutes is too short to miss anything in class.
Be VERY careful about excused absences: student council, guidance, class trips etc. are excused absences, family vacations are unexcused. (Handbook p. 9)Absences from class for any reason will affect your ability to remain current in class and may cause you to loose credit for the class.
All quizzes are open notebook, closed book, accomplished with the team.

Advanced Learning Style Abilities:

All work is done in student teams. This replicates a lab/ college atmosphere. However, there will be individual accountability on each assignment. Therefore, no student will be “getting grades off your hard work.”
Common Misperceptions(and their corrections)
Locker and bathroom passes are written whenever you want. (go to the bathroom and locker any time you are NOT in class)
We worked on the lab together, therefore our answers are the same.(all written work is in your own words and will not sound the same as any other students.)
Other teachers let us eat in class. (this is a school rule: food does not leave the café, there is no eating in ANY academic room, there is absolutely no eating in a science room)
Other teachers let us use cell phone and headphones(this is a school rule: no cell phones EVER in school 7:40 am-2:30 pm, no headphones EVER in an academic room)
If I am absent for an assignment, I do not have to make up the work.(get the assignment from the calendar of due dates and get the data to the lab from a team member.)
Other teachers let me turn in late work whenever I want.(late work is due at the end of the unit and the marking period is over when the instructor closes it)
