Board of Education Hires New Superintendent

Jeffrey BenderAt its meeting on April 26, 2016, the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District Board of Education approved Mr. Jeffrey Bender as the new Superintendent of Schools, beginning July 1, 2016.  He is replacing Dr. Frank Helies, who has served as Interim Superintendent since September 1, 2015.  Dr. Charles M. Shaddow retired as Superintendent on August 31, 2015 after serving in the position for 17 years.

Blood Drive May 26

North Hunterdon High School is proud to announce that a blood drive will be held in the Boy’s Gym on May 26, 2016 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Each year, our teachers, students, parents/guardians, and community members have come forward to help others through blood donations and we hope our community’s generosity will continue. While students who are seventeen and eighteen years old may donate legally without parental permission, we ask that they speak with their parents/guardians before donating, and that they obtain written permission, click here for form. We also extend a special invitation to our students who will be sixteen years old by May 26.  With parental permission, sixteen-year-olds can donate in the state of New Jersey.  In addition to filling out the permission slip above, they must also fill out the New Jersey Blood Services Parental Consent Form – click here. We hope to see you on May 26!

Graduation 2016 Important Information

College Essay Workshop

Once again this summer, the NH Education Foundation is offering College Essay Writing Sessions for rising seniors. These workshops will enable students to:

  • Learn the essentials of how to write an effective common application essay or personal statement.
  • Draft their essays during the course of the two-week workshop.
  •  Read sample essays, write about personal experiences to identify themes, brainstorm essay topics, anddraft scenes.
  • Discuss writing techniques, and draft transitions and endings.
  • Leave the four-day workshop with a working draft of their essay.

Heroin Presentation by Prosecutor’s Office May 3

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office is holding a presentation on the heroin epidemic at the regional high schools in the county in April and May.  North Hunterdon High School will be hosting the presentation on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:00pm in the theater.  The Prosecutor will be joined by Assemblyman Erik Peterson, Lt. Kevin Burd, and Lesley Gabel from Hunterdon Prevention Resources to discuss what is going on with heroin in our county, what is being done about it and what about school safety.  If you are a parent, student, Board of Education member, school staff member, local elected official, or community member, please join us! Lions Baseball embraces Autism Awareness Baseball Challenge April 24th

Autism-Awareness-Baseball-2016All the varsity players will be wearing blue Autism Awareness shirts in school this Friday. The team has been briefed on what Autism is so if someone asks about it, they can shed some light to someone who does not know anything about it. We are emphasizing that by just saying “Hi” to someone with Autism you can make their day!.

The Golden Lions Rock at the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade

GL-Disney1Congratulations to the “Golden Lions” Marching Band who performed this past weekend at Walt Disney World. The band performed on Saturday afternoon in the Magic Kingdom as part of the “Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade”. The band’s performance was enthusiastically received by the large audience and garnered praise from Disney representatives.

Mr. Angeline, Mr. Hopta, and Mrs. McGourty wish to thank the band and color guard for their dedication in preparing for and executing an extremely successful four day excursion.

Senior Prom 2016

Unused Emergency Closing Days

Because of the mild winter, the high school district currently has four unused emergency closing days in its calendar.  The dates to give back these unused days have been determined.  The high school district will be closed on the following dates:

  • Thursday, March 24
  • Monday, April 4
  • Friday, May 27
  • Friday, June 3

These dates are subject to change in the event an emergency closing is needed.  Please note that the last day of school and graduation remains on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

As a reminder, Thursday, June 2 will be a half day for students as the Prom is that evening.
